The festival season is never the same without a trip to Camp Bestival, the incredible family music festival that is the brainchild of Rob Da Bank and his wife Josie. The Festival is set in the grounds of Lulworth Castle that was built in the early 17th Century deep in the heart of Dorset and spitting distance from the sea.

For those who don’t know Camp Bestival, it is a multi award winning festival combining a family festival and an action packed camping experience. Throw in some great music and you’ve got the makings of one of the best festivals in the UK. In fact it has won Best Family Festival five times at the awards in 2017, 2014, 2013, 2010 & 2009 as well as winning Best Family Festival at the Family Traveller Awards in 2017 & 2015 .. quite some accolades.

The music line up as usual had something for everyone. Heading the main stage or Castle stage as they call it where Rick Astley, Clean Bandit and Simple Minds. On the Big Top stage there was Basement Jaxx, Jaguar Skills and Orbital. There was a host of other great bands including Rae Morris, Sara Cox DJ set, The Cuban Brothers, Declan McKenna, Jesus Jones, Stereo Mc’s and the list goes on and on. If you added in the other smaller stages around the site, you didn’t have to travel far to get your fix of some amazing and unique music.

The kids could never feel bored at Camp Bestival as there are a ton of things for them to do and experience such as theatre shows, trapeze artists, puppet shows, comedy, stories, play areas including an amazing sand pit, uk festival air guitar championship, craft corner, kids disco, zip line, Peppa Pig, Peter Rabbit and Paddington to name just a few. Wow how cool is that !

Food at Camp Bestival is second to none with food stalls dotted around the site it would be difficult not to find something to tickle your taste buds. This year also saw the availability of being able to add credit to your wrist band so you didn’t have to carry cash around with you. We thought this was a really neat idea.

The Dorset weather, like most of the country was bathed in hot, hot sunshine, that is until sunday when the heavens decided to open and just like being on the high seas the wind became very strong. So strong in fact that sadly the organisers felt it was necessary on safety grounds to close the festival early. Rightly so as the weather was unrelenting on sunday and wouldn’t have been much fun.

So VIVA decided to lift anchor and set sail for home, having had an amazing few days at the coolest family festival around.

For all those out there with kids, give Camp Bestival a go next year. You won’t regret it and the kids will thank you for taking them.
