CHESHIRE: The Garden proves the grass can be greener with new Autumn menu

Jessica Ward | 15th October 2018

On a particularly miserable day, typical of the British weather we have come to know and love, we found ourselves in the middle of Hale looking for a unique café bringing health food and the latest food trends together.

As we entered the bustling café, the tall bar tables were filled with young professionals discussing business over a Chai Latte whilst the café tables further in had an abundance of the mums of Cheshire, and of course the ladies who leisure.

We were welcomed with a big smile and shown to our table. We had a lovely waitress who came over to explain the menu and of course give her recommendations.

As The Garden is renowned for its healthy food and holistic lifestyle, I thought I better up my health game and I ordered a cold pressed juice (thrive). Made with pineapple, apple, carrot, lemon, ginger, turmeric and lucuma.

For those like me who have no idea what on earth lucuma is, I did a little Google and according to the web lucuma is a native Peruvian fruit naturally rich in beta-carotene, iron, zinc, vitamin B3, calcium, and protein. Winner!

The juice was delicious with a lovely ginger kick. I could feel the health benefits pumping through my veins with every sip.

It was then onto the main course. As the weather was so cold, wet and windy I was in dire need of comfort food. I wanted my food to feel like a warm hug, so I opted for the Thai Buddha Bowl whilst the other half went for a Chicken & Halloumi Wrap – with a side of halloumi. There is no such thing as too much halloumi.

When our food arrived, looking as aesthetically pleasing as their Instagram page, we dug in. I have to say we were at first a little dubious about the smaller portions as we had come with extremely hungry tummies. However, we soon found out we needn’t worry. The food was delicious and extremely filling.

The Thai Buddha Bowl was packed full of flavour, full of the freshest seasonal veg and chickpeas with a fabulous chilli kick I was in heaven, although I did struggle to finish the dish as it was so filling, which of course is no bad feat.

It was then onto dessert. A raw blueberry cheesecake and a sticky toffee pudding, both vegan friendly. Both desserts were incredible and honestly, I would have no idea either of these desserts were vegan had our waitress not mentioned it when she brought out the desserts.

We washed our desserts down with an activated charcoal latte – the perfect drink to get you into the Halloween spirit.

VIVA Verdict:

Overall, our meal and service was a solid 10/10. I have to admit I was expecting to go away hungry and given small plates lacking in flavour, but nothing could be further from the truth. What I love the most about The Garden is that they effortlessly prove that living a healthy lifestyle does not mean you have to live on a dull and bland food diet, in fact, quite the opposite. When it comes to healthy eating, we could all take a leaf out of The Garden’s book.
