The former Manchester United players behind Hotel Football have announced a new partnership deal with Tribute Portfolio – Marriott International’s newest independent hotel brand.

Situated just a few metres away from Old Trafford, Manchester United’s home ground, the football-themed 133-room hotel marks Tribute Portfolio’s second opening in the UK.

However, under the franchise agreement, it will remain majority owned by Singaporean business man Peter Lim and former Manchester United players Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Philip Neville.

GG Hospitality, the management company owned by the same group, will continue to manage and operate the property.

Hotel Football was created in 2015 by the Class of ’92: Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Philip Neville, a group of internationally respected former Manchester United players, considered legends of the game.

Their ambition and dedication to heritage, quality and creating a winning team are at the hotel’s core, from top-quality bed linen and rainforest showers, to the 70 artworks created by local University of Salford students – chosen by the founders – displayed throughout.

John Licence, Vice President Premium and Select Brands Europe, Marriott International said: “We are delighted to welcome Hotel Football as the first Tribute Portfolio property in Manchester. With its playful character and bold identity, the hotel is a true reflection of Tribute Portfolio’s stay with character ethos.”

Inspired by its enviable location next to the stadium, Hotel Football room categories include King, Stadium View, Squad – perfect for families of up to four – and most recently The Class of ’92 rooms. Steeped with memorabilia, The Class of ’92 rooms feature the ultimate view of Old Trafford, signed shirts, Champions League medals and framed snapshots of the founders’ most memorable footballing moments.

Winston Zahra, CEO of GG Hospitality said: “We have established Hotel Football as a very strong concept in Manchester over the past four years. This new association with Marriott International helps us reach new travellers looking for remarkable accommodation, characterful design and vibrant social spaces. We are very much looking forward to working closely with Tribute Portfolio to continue to deliver the best in hospitality to our guests.”

Hospitality runs through the heart of Hotel Football. The Old Trafford Supporters Club basement event space is a retreat on match day, where there is a 32-foot bar and walls decorated with fan-art. Heaven, a five-a-side football pitch and event space, sits on the hotel’s rooftop with a fully retractable roof – guaranteed to make an impression during leisure or corporate events.

On match days, when excitement reaches fever pitch, fans can enjoy a drink in the Players’ Lounge or the prestigious Stadium Suite, where a four-course meal is punctuated by a special appearance and a Q&A session with a former Manchester United legend.

On the bustling ground floor, the fun and relaxed Cafe Football brings together stadium visitors and hotel guests alike to enjoy a menu that elevates wholesome and traditional dishes inspired by the game. Artwork by Manchester artist and illustrator Stanley Chow are hung between screens showing matches, and family touches continue with the Cafe Football sticker book for children– a nostalgic throwback to childhood days.
