Metropolis returned for round two last Friday for its two-part takeover of Manchester Academy. The second event focused on a host of drum and bass artist from across the spectrum including artists such as Nosia, The Prototypes, Nicky Blackmarket and DJ Guv.

From 9pm – 6am all three of Manchester Academy’s rooms were opened as the 35+ artists stepped up to have their turn against the Manchester Audience. As a sea of people began to flood the academy rooms the genres unmatchable energy was contagious. Feelings of excitement and anticipation for the night ahead spread as everyone prepared for the torrent of talent on all three stages.

Opening one of the earlier slots was Drum and Bass Legend Nicky Blackmarket. With a friendly familiar smile on the DJ’s face he effortlessly ripped through his USB playing a host of different tunes as the crowd chanted his name along with his MC. Downstairs jump up front runner DJ Guv delivered a masterclass in the sub-genre which had everyone including the bar staff bounce around to his signature sound.

As the night got into full swing Brighton based duo The Prototypes delivered a phenomenal set in one of the main academy rooms. Each song packed more energy than the previous and the crowd showed no sign of stopping. Following Prototypes was Dutch trio Noisia. One of the most well respected names within the scene Nosia’s signature sound design pounded the Academy sound system as people dressed in the trio’s march went crazy with every song.

The night felt like a mini festival; a whirlwind of excitement grew within you as you studied the set times and worked out the clashes. Metropolis made sure there was something for everyone at all times.

Metropolis delivered a host of talent to Manchester and represented a true showcase of Drum and bass. As the crowd matched the energy of each artist this night had a very special feeling, a feeling which I have never experienced before which left me begging the question; ……when’s the next Metropolis event?
