Eggs the play at Manchester 53Two

With International Women’s Day just around the corner, Eggs The Play will make its debut in the birthplace of the suffragette movement.

Eggs is a dark comedy based on friendship, fertility, and freaking out. The play delves into issues around gender identity, roles, and disparity from systemic societal pressures. The play explores the world we live in and the effects that society has on people growing up today. With an entirely female cast and creative team Eggs shows that us girls can do it!

The story follows two young women from Manchester, leading very different lives, united by their struggle against society’s expectations. The story follows them as they try to figure out who they are, how to exist and who to be. In the end, it is friendship which rescues those women from alienation.

The leading roles in eggs the play at Manchester 53two are played by Emily Curtis and Lauren-Nicole Mayes.

Director, Chantell Walker, said: “Eggs completely breaks down the lies that women are being fed, by social media, magazines, tea that makes you have a flat tummy and also makes you sh*t yourself. That we at present are not good enough and if we alter who we are, if we buy into their crap, we will be beautiful, desired, worthy.

“This story is of two young women from Manchester, best friends who share their best and worst times together. They let us see what it’s really like to be a mid 20’s woman in 2018 and the perfection that we are being sold doesn’t exist.”

Eggs is coming to Manchester’s 53two for four nights between March 7 and 10. Tickets can be booked here.
