If you’re looking for a bargain that’s out of this world (and who isn’t) then VIVA can highly recommend the Cosmic Supper Club at The Alchemist, which is available from Sunday to
Wednesday from 5pm.
It’s a total steal with a Cosmic Oyster cocktail and three plates for £20 per person (yes that’s right, we read it initially as three between you but we’re delighted it wasn’t). VIVA popped into the Alchemist in Spinningfields to try it out and were wowed by the dishes and choice.
You start with an oyster shot and these aren’t the sea creatures but shots basically served for the Instgram grid on a plate of ice and in oyster shaped shells. We tried both options, the Bombay Presse Gin and limoncello as well as the Yuzu, citrus, disco blue with passion fruit pearls. These were yummy but a little messy to take as a shot causing giggles as the drink escaped.
We paired with some great dishes which are superb value for money as they are not measly portions and are ideal for whiling away an hour or two in this vibey, pretty bar. There wasn’t a dud among them and we loved the prawn lollipops, perfectly cooked and tasty pork crackling that condensed the essence of pig.
Vegan tata tots (and yes there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options) were a surprise hit with us, whist dough balls with a syringe of chorizo and cheddar taste were a carbey heaven. Cauliflower bites were beautiful and a vegan burrata was a cream cheese dip that worked really well with pitta.
There are sweet treats too but we are more savoury types so stuck to what we like. It’s ideal for dates, a bite with mates and great value for money. VIVA Verdict: A bargain that doesn’t flinch on flavour or portion size.
