Get Clued Up On The Oscars 2016
| 26th February 2016
The 88th Academy Awards takes place this Sunday, and with the whole world talking about it, here are 8 things you need to know ready for the celebration:
1. Leonardo DiCaprio is once again up for another Best Actor award. Now, we don’t know about you, but we really are rooting for the guy. Whether The Revenant (his latest film where he portrays a frontiersman utilising survival skills after sustaining injuries from a brutal bear attack and being left by his team for dead) was your cup of tea or not, I think everyone agrees that Leo deserves it for his past 4 nominations. After winning the BAFTA, the SAG award and the Golden Globe for his latest role, he seems to have a good chance. So let’s all keep our fingers crossed for our favourite Jack Dawson/Romeo/Arnie Grape/Jordan Belfort/Jay Gatsby!
2. Comedian Chris Rock is presenting the awards for the second time this year, so laughter is guaranteed. However, with many black celebrities boycotting this years award show for its lack of racial diversity – will the presenter stay quiet on the issue? You will just have to tune in and see.
3. For those of us more interested in the performances than the speeches: 3 out of 5 nominees will be taking the stage to perform their Oscar-nominated original songs. Lady Gaga will belt out ‘Til It Happens to You’ from The Hunting Ground; Sam Smith will serenade us with ‘Writing’s on the Wall’; and the Weeknd will perform ‘Earned It’ for all the Fifty Shades of Grey fans out there! The Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl will also be on hand with a mysterious “special performance”.
4. We love our own here in Britain, so make sure you are cheering for those representing us on Sunday night! Here is a list of all the British filmmakers nominated this year:
