Italian comfort food at its finest – Gino’s new menu

Italian comfort food at its finest: What could be finer in this dismal weather than a ray of Italian sunshine or the next best thing in the shape of perfect comfort food like Nonna used to make?

 

VIVA went to try the new Autumn/ Winter menu at Gino D’Acampo My Restaurant, Manchester, (that’s a mouthful) in the heart of the Corn Exchange where glitz and tiffany blue booths bring some much-needed warmth and frankly good grub.

 

Like the chef himself, it’s vibrant, happy and bursting with life with charming servers who know their onions and recommended a quite super red Borolo to wash our feast down with (wines start from £23.75)

 

 

 

We were starving so a rustic garlic cheese pizza was just the ticket which we inhaled and tucked into giant prawns and lush calamari (starters from £4) whilst we perused the menu.

 

In the ends, we opted for all three of Gino’s Special Autumn/Winter dishes to share and these were perfect Italian comfort food.

 

I loved the Capesante, Isle of White scallops teamed wonderfully with lentils for a fresh fishy, hearty dish as the flavours oozed together and gave a mouthful of delight.

 

 

A Rigatoni with Wild Boar Ragù was just gorgeous, how velvet would taste and summed up Italy in one dish.

 

 Whilst the Chicken Cacciatore was the stand-out dish we all agreed on and would go back for more.

 

There was no room for puds which did look delicious, but the portions here are big and hearty as they should be.

 

 

It’s a perfect vibe for a festive treat or get together for the fam, and there are deals available too with two courses of £17.50 and three at £21.50. Bargain!

 

VIVA verdict: Top notch Italian fare in a sparkling atmosphere. A perfect pick-me-up for this time of year.
