Here’s VIVA’s round up of wonderful free events to do in Manchester and beyond, as well as the hottest new food and drink in the city. You’re welcome!
There’s an ‘Under One Roof, Refuge Terrace Takeover’, this Saturday (July 23) at The Terrace at The Refuge.
Under One Roof, a fully accessible club night for adults with disabilities, will be taking over The Terrace at The Refuge for a free event, welcoming all across the city for an evening of great music!
This weekend’s line-up features DJs such as aalice, who is best known for being one quarter of female-led techno party Meat Free and currently holds a residency at Hidden in Manchester – one of the UK’s most famous clubs.
Jake Smith also features on the line up, a disabled DJ/Producer from Cheshire who has previously played gigs at Ibiza’s Ocean Beach and Creamfields festival.
FoodWell finds a new home following its success and is now based at the XYZ building just over the bridge into Spinningfields from its sister eatery, Firefly.
They told VIVA it’s the perfect fit to rehome the FoodWell brand to a more centralised location with a neighbourly feel.
There’s also a slight concept change, as the new FoodWell Deli, Bar, Pizzeria & Event Space, will now offer ‘food hall’ style service for quick grab & go lunches or laid-back juices/coffee/beers. We also have sweet treats from Gooey available every day, followed by fine wine by the glass, cheese and charcuterie for after work meets and nibbles.
There will be live music & DJs to create some early evening atmosphere and a lively meeting place for our Spinningfields community.
Opening times are 8am-8pm. Follow them on Insta for updates and event information.
Piazza Aperol at The Oast House is a brand-new Italian square to experience that bittersweet, refreshing end to the working day – the Italian way.
Fully equipped with orange trees, Fiat 500s in Aperol’s iconic orange, swing seats and art deco streetlights, Piazza Aperol is the perfect location for an Aperol Spritz and will spritz up any social feed with Insta-worthy moments. Not to mention the ultimate ‘pub garden’ to hit up in the sun.

After a three-year pandemic-induced gap Streets Ahead is back with a weekend of eccentric, to say nothing of downright weird, street theatre and other strange goings-on – something Manchester has been starved of in recent years.
The event is completely free and the action-packed programme will take place in four locations across Castlefield and the spaces in-between. It’s on Saturday 30 July – 2.00-10.00pm and Sunday 31 July – 2.00-7.00pm.
There are twenty acts to enchant, amuse and delight including from theatre and dance to gruesome puppetry and even a ‘gymkhana.’
And at last, there’s the chance to enjoy the much delayed premieres of Avanti Display where the Manchester favourites return at long last with their new classic show ‘Full Circle’ and Kapow Dance Circus Theatre with their watery spectacle ‘Mayfly’.
And you might miss The Invisible Man bought to you by Invisible States – look out, he may be behind you!
All this and many other great shows including one that will even (or especially) appeal to dogs – all canines’ welcome.
And of course, there will be plenty of food and drink, pizzas, curries, barbecue fruit bowls and more.
