“I label it as pop music just because it’s the broadest category”- Gus Dapperton

Coral Daniels | 14th February 2018

Gus Dapperton is a rising American star. He has over seven million streams on Spotify and an ever growing global fanbase.

He recently took his ‘Yellow and Such’ tour to Manchester’s Gorilla.

It was originally meant to be held at The Soup Kitchen, but a mis-hap with ticket sales meant an up-grade was needed.

Gorilla was however almost full to the brim by the time Gus took to the stage. Clearly, he’s in high demand.

His music has a dream-like quality that causes you to zone out; almost hypnotic in its style.

He writes, records, performs and produces all his own music too.

When you consider the fact he’s only 20 years old and from New York, it makes it all the more impressive that his current UK shows sold-out.

Leaving a Gus Dapperton gig you get an odd feeling. Normally, you’d be buzzing from adrenaline and super sweaty from the mosh pits. Yet, with Gus’ gigs you are led into a hypnotic relaxation and state of tranquility.

Viva caught up with him before the gig, here’s what he had to say:

He’s certainly one to watch this year and you can catch him back in the UK in May. He’ll be playing in Brighton, London,Leeds and Glasgow.
