To mark the inaugural flight from Manchester to Los Angeles, Virgin Atlantic is celebrating another famed link between the two transatlantic cities – music!

With the help of Andy Bell, former bass player of legendary Mancunian band Oasis, Virgin Atlantic has launched a search for one lucky band or musician in the airport catchment area* to fly to LA and take the stage at iconic music venue, The Roxy, and experience a rock star getaway in the city of angels

Entries are now open with the winner set to fly to LA on the inaugural flight on Sunday 26th May.

To celebrate the new route between Manchester and LA, Virgin Atlantic has today announced the search for the North’s next big thing on the music scene to experience a career launching opportunity – flying to LA to play a gig at iconic live music venue, The Roxy.

Music plays an integral role for each city, with both Manchester and LA laying claim to some of the world’s most famous acts. This opportunity offers a new UK headliner the chance to take the stage at one of the States’ most well-known venues. Located on the Sunset Strip, The Roxy has seen leading bands and artists take the stage since the early 70’s with some of the most memorable including; Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bob Marley and The Ramones.

Entrants will be shortlisted by an expert panel, including Virgin Records Managing Director, Clive Cawley, and former Oasis and current Ride guitarist, Andy Bell, as well as a public vote. To be crowned winner, the finalists will then perform live in front of the judging panel at Manchester Airport, proving they have what it takes to play The Roxy. The winning band or artist will then head to LA on the inaugural flight Rockstar style, seated in Upper Class, before taking to the stage at The Roxy for a one-night-only performance.

To top off the experience, Andy Bell will join the winner in LA to offer his expert advice and support.

Andy Bell, Founder and Co-Frontman of alternative legends Ride, and former bass player in Oasis said: “Virgin Atlantic’s Headline the Roxy is the ultimate chance for someone to make their big break and have the experience of a lifetime in LA. There’s so much musical talent coming from the north – I’m looking forward to seeing the entries and heading across the Atlantic with the winner.”

Juha Jarvinen at Virgin Atlantic said: “Manchester and LA have long shared a great love for music, with each city claiming home to legendary bands and icons. We’re delighted to be able to give the North’s next big thing the opportunity to perform at The Roxy and let their music career take flight, as we celebrate yet another link between the two great cities with the launch of regular Virgin Atlantic flights between Manchester and Los Angeles this May.”

Julian Carr, Aviation Director at Manchester Airport, said: “As the UK’s global gateway in the North, Manchester Airport is proud to help support budding talent across the region, and offer even more chances for passengers to easily visit LA with the launch of the new Virgin Atlantic route. I wish each of the 22 million people in our catchment area the best of luck in the competition.”
