Healthy Treating with Squirrel Sisters

Maintaining a healthy balanced diet can be a bit of a headache, with a new super food trending on Instagram every month and nutritional data changing more often than the weather it can be difficult to know what is actually good for us. 31% of Britons pledged to improve their eating habits in 2017  yet more than half us won’t see that resolution through to the end of the year*.

So here’s a little something to aid you in becoming a healthier, happier snacker.

The Squirrel Sisters are making healthy ‘treating’ that little bit easier, fun and really damn delicious, real life sisters Gracie and Sophie Tyrrel launched their nutritious treats in 2015 following the success of their blog. The sisters feel that many of us are held back from living the balanced lifestyles we desire, as healthy eating is so often portrayed as rigid with little to no options for those sweet cravings.

Their current range is made up of four delectable flavours, cacao brownie, raspberry ripple, cashew coconut and cacao orange, all of which consist of no more than seven all natural vegan and refined sugar free ingredients such as nuts, dried fruits and energy rich cacao. The raspberry ripple is the ideal balance of sweet and tart tang, the cacao nibs of the brownie give a deep roasted chocolate boost and the cacao orange is everything you want from a sweet treat (you’ll be hard pushed not to devour this in one greedy bite).

We often hear sugar free and think sin free, which is where ‘health foods’ can become a bit grey and the conflicting information makes you want to reach for the biscuit barrel and to hell with the kale crisps. Sophie and Gracie have taken this into account with their perfectly portioned treats, the sublimely packaged bites contain two bars, and each between 81 and 97 calories, meaning you can always stay in control of your calorie intake and snack happy.

The Squirrel Sisters treats are handy for those on the go days, the ideal at desk work snack, have one for your mid morning pick me up and the second one for your 4pm boost or post work out for that instant hit of goodness. But don’t stop there, they work beautifully as an indulgent dessert, try them in little bite size pieces over ice cream, I’m hooked on the coconut cashew with coconut caramel ice cream… little bowl of heaven.

Find Squirrel Sisters bars in Planet Organic, Ocado, Boots, Amazon, Holland & Barrett, Wholefoods and they recently launched nationwide at Morrisons Supermarkets or through their website www.squirrelsisters.com where you’ll also find great recipes and tips for healthy living. We’ll be serving up plenty of news on the girls very soon as their debut recipe book launches next month.
