CHESHIRE: Hickory’s Wilmslow is firing up the smokers! It’s been almost two years since the Hickory’s team took over the site on Racecourse Road. Now, they are finally ready to unveil their unique take on Southern hospitality to the people of Wilmslow, Manchester and beyond.
The independent Cheshire based group have been operating in Chester for over 21 years, with their cocktail bar, Barlounge and Upstairs At The Grill, an award-winning steakhouse restaurant, before opening their first Hickory’s 11 years ago.
Originally due to open in April last year the team are super-excited and ready to swing open the doors and do what they do best – treating guests to the best BBQ experience this side of the Atlantic!
Its founder, Neil McDonnell, said the team cannot wait to finally open: “At times its felt like this day would never come but we are finally there and I know the team are all raring to go. One benefit of the delayed opening has been the extra time it has given us to finesse the design of the restaurant, add a few quirky extra touches and make sure our team are all very excited and ready to go. We’ve had an overwhelming amount of support from the local community here in Wilmslow, so, as you can imagine, we can’t wait to welcome you all and show you what we have done with the place.”
So, what can you expect?
The definition of a family friendly restaurant and neighbourhood bar, they are known for their legendary welcome and super-authentic BBQ classics. From the specially designed kids cinema room, to their dedicated Sports Book (the first one outside of Chester), their commitment to creating a welcoming hub for the whole community goes way beyond the design of the building.
Along with the usual food features such as the cosy sheltered veranda and welcoming neighbourhood bar area, the Wilmslow restaurant also boasts a delightful new glass Garden Room. A super light, bright and sunny space with fully retractable roof and sides to enjoy your favourite smokehouse treat – whatever the weather.
Super-fast Wi-Fi and ‘working from home’ points in the new multi-functional Sports Book complete the welcoming space to enjoy the golf, rugby & come September NFL. Designed to work as a ‘home from home’ for local people who may need a break from their home-working routine and the perfect place to meet colleagues and clients for a ‘real life’ meeting!
And if all that wasn’t enough, the food and drink are the real stars of the show here. The delicious menu is packed full of the flavours of the deep South with classic smokehouse dishes such as ribs, brisket and pulled pork all smoked low ‘n’ slow in their specially imported smokers sitting alongside a superb selection of signature steaks, burgers, a huge variety of main courses and the most incredible cocktail and milkshake menu for miles.
We headed over to check out their new menu ahead of their opening and all we can say is WOW! The food and the service genuinely is the best in town. We recommend the corn dogs and the Louisiana hot wings if you like a bit of spice. For first timers you can’t go wrong with the sharing platter for two which includes a generous selection of all the smokehouse classics.
General Manager Adam Mitchell, said: ‘The team are beyond excited to open. All the training and our practice nights have been leading to this moment and we just can’t wait to start welcoming our guests for real, so come and say ‘Hi’ and see what we have done with the place.
Hickory’s Smokehouse Wilmslow will be open from 11am until late daily from Friday 16th July.
