Holy Bat-Hotel. The VIVA Girls Get A Sneak Peak Inside Hotel Gotham’s VIP Club

Emma Chadwick | 1st February 2016

Hotel Gotham opened its doors last April as the latest exclusive destination for travellers and those wanting a swanky super break in the heart of the city, transforming the iconic Edwin Lutyens’ building which like so many on and off King Street are simply stunning landmarks.

It’s stylish, sleek and sexy, which is why we were delighted to take a private-ish tour and find out about the inner sanctum – not just the name of their most exclusive suites – but Brass, a VIP lounge, that is the focal of Club Brass, the private club that has just released 50 new memberships if you can afford the fees (starting from £750 a year for individuals) and get through the approval procedure.

We met suited and booted raconteur and Managing Director Jeff Ward and his right-hand man, Matthew Miller, for champers first in the vaulted sixth floor bar that you can only get in if you are a member or staying at the hotel.

It’s sumptuous , described by the boys as ‘bank meets art deco’, as the lovingly restored listed building was indeed  a bank and rumour has it forgotten  New Order and Joy Division goodies were found stashed in the safe during the refurb.  Hence ‘Brass’ a slang word for money for those not in the know.

There’s stunning attention to detail and fine living, the Thienot champagne we delicately glugged is served at the Oscars , there are comfy and private nooks and crannies, a centre bar and two terraces with gorgeous views and gargoyles as well as a telescope for a bit of sly skyline peeping.

After that,  a whistle stop tour of bedrooms (they have 60), which go from glam to very glam to glamazon with prices to match (starting from circa £150 on a good day for punters and much more on a good day for Jeff, whose top tip is to book direct for the best deals).

They’re all fur throws, huge wet rooms, velvet sophisticated sofas and chaises, minibars with intimacy kits and Slattery’s chocs, plasma screens and in the inner sanctum suites built into the atrium, huge screens to project what you want where a ‘normal’ window would be.

There’s a definite naughty vibe to the whole thing, a ‘what happens in Gotham stays in Gotham’ unspoken rule which is why it’s a hotspot for those celebs forced to stay up North from time to time.

Then it was off for a lazy lunch in the private dining room tucking into rapturous scallops to start, followed by plump pillows of duck breast and a simply wonderful gold-leaf dusted white chocolate, caramelised creation. Fabulous food.

We’re just looking down the VIVA couch to see if we have any spare change for membership and if you’re interest visit here.
