Hotel Gotham: “Oozing opulence from the inside and out.”

Not far from Manchester Piccadilly sits a castle-like Art Décor building built by world renowned British Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyen. Being one of the most significant pieces of Modern Architecture in Manchester, Hotel Gotham protrudes amongst the Manchester skyline.

Oozing opulence from the inside and out, Hotel Gotham is reminiscent of the Great Gatsby’s luxurious estate, where the anonymous figure hosted the world’s most extravagant parties.

100 King street, formerly a Midland Bank was constructed between 1933-35. Demonstrating the typical arches and layers of an Art Deco building, (which was an usual style for Manchester!) Gotham is regarded as one of the world’s most quirky and luxurious boutiques, sporting six floors of stylish rooms, a rooftop terrace and bar and rosette winning ‘Honey’ restaurant.

Greeted by a wonderfully amiable concierge with a perfectly styled moustache, our bags were kindly delivered into our room whilst we checked in at the reception; strangely on the sixth floor.

Our room, The Bank Manager’s Suite, was decked out with Gotham’s aesthetic. From the striking monochrome zig zag carpets, to the lavish emperor sized bed and roll-top bathtub, everything is furnished to the highest of standards to adhere to its five-star ratings.

Quirky themed accessories are dotted around the room, making the hotel more of an experience as opposed to a stay. The ‘Gotham Bugle’ that features the fictional characters of the hotel, Lady Didsbury and Tony Trafford, is laid out on the desk as we make our way into the room where classical music resonates through the air.

We spot a novelty pair of vintage binoculars, which of course we use to look around King Street’s finest shops, bars and restaurants.

It was time to unwind. We hopped into the luxurious walk-in shower, slipped into our robes and slippers and finally indulged in some real relaxation. With the extravagant facilities, it was something we could get dangerously used to.

It was a (surprisingly!) clear night in Manchester; the perfect weather to sit on the stunning roof terrace with a glass of wine as the sun set. So much so, we couldn’t deny visiting the terrace after dinner to see the glimmering lights of the city.

Making our way back down to our room, it was getting late but we couldn’t resist a stay without making use of the flamboyant bath tub. Submerged in the tub, we wished we could live in Hotel Gotham forever; living the extravagant lifestyle of a New-Yorker in the city.

Breakfast soon came around, and was situated in the restaurant on the sixth floor, where the discrete yet noticeable Batman motifs seem to pop-up here as well as everywhere else in the hotel.

The sixth-floor restaurant had me in awe (unusual for me at that time in a morning). Its rounded windows exposed stunning views across the city whilst I indulged in a hearty English Breakfast.

Hotel Gotham has its own quirky style and story which makes it unique amongst the boutique hotels in Manchester. With its prime location in the King Street area, admirable style in décor and commendable staff, Hotel Gotham is the perfect city escape into the world of luxury and lavishness.
