“It is safe to say that we are all ready for the page to turn to 2021 along with all the hopes, aspirations and joy each New Year brings. After a rather crazy 2020- now would be the perfect time to shift our mindsets to a positive way of thinking, leave our self limiting beliefs behind and facing the year ahead with a fresh, positive mindset and bigger dreams than ever before.” says Jessica Cunningham, a successful business woman and life coach extraordinaire.
VIVA caught up with Jess to get her insights on how to hit the ground running in January, and how to make 2021 the best year yet.
“We all deserve happiness, it is our birthright. Let us make 2021 the year we allow more happiness, freedom, health and balance to flow. I have started a membership launching in January called Conscious Female Entrepreneurs – and this is one of the biggest reasons behind this creation.
“Here are some methods I have used with my clients that you can use to help shift your mindset from negative to positive and rewrite those self limiting beliefs. These techniques will help you to pave the way for a bright and successful 2021.”
1. Empower yourself!
If you have told yourself that you are not good enough, you are not alone. Most people talk negatively about themselves and often without even realising it. This has become a habit. Try doing this in the New Year- everytime you go to say something negative, or tell yourself you are not pretty or fun enough, write down five things you like and think positively about yourself instead. This creates new, neural-pathways which become your new way of thinking ultimately. Practising this daily then becomes a habit, and you naturally empower yourself rather than beat yourself up about minor, unimportant things.
2. Embrace your uniqueness and your story.
Nobody is you and that is your power. Make this a mantra going forward into 2021. We are all on different timelines and at different parts of our journeys, although it is natural to look at others and compare our lives to theirs- we must limit doing this in a negative way. If you find yourself doing this, reflect on how you feel. Journal your thoughts and feelings down and instead of allowing this to affect you. Find something to praise about the person you are comparing yourself to. Write down all of your accomplishments, anything- even if it was getting out of bed today. Write it down. From big to small- make sure you celebrate YOU.
3. Plan regular ‘me time’.
To embrace a positive mindset for 2021 make time for your own physical, mental and emotional well-being so you can show up as the best possible version of yourself. Incorporate activities and daily practises into your routine such as journaling, daily gratitudes and meditation. Put down your phone and experience the beauty this world has to offer, and try to find a healthy balance. Keep your phone on airplane mode when you are not using it, and switch it fully off for the last 15 minutes before you go to bed. Not only will this help to maintain a sense of calm and reduce stress, it also helps to shift your mindset to a positive way of thinking and gives a feeling of empowerment. We all want to wake up feeling this way don’t we?
4. Make sleep a priority!
We may have heard it before, but it is scientifically proven- getting a full 8 hours sleep lowers the risk of depression and reduces stress levels. Thus leading to a much more positive mindset when you wake up and start your day! Create a simple bedtime routine that will allow you to have a sufficient amount of sleep. Spray lavender on to your pillow, journal before you go to bed, do a nighttime meditation. All of these practises will allow your brain’s neural pathways to connect to the feeling of sleeping, and once it becomes a habit, it will naturally send signals to your body to prepare, and allow for a better night’s sleep.
5. Make 2021 the year of self love!
I have been so fortunate to work with many incredible clients who have completely changed their core beliefs and habits through working with their inner child. Everytime we say something negative about ourselves we must consciously stop and think of that inner child we are hurting. Actively find time for yourself, and practise self care in 2021. This will undoubtedly help to shift your mindset to a positive way of thinking. Making a cup of tea in the morning, breathwork or taking a relaxing hot soak in the tub in the evening- these are all practises that can improve our mood and create more love for ourselves. Keep a journal of the things you absolutely love about yourself and reflect upon it daily.
According to Jess, it seems that the more we actively give ourselves the gift of time, the more self-respect we grow, the more empowered we feel, and the better our choices become.
