The Innocence of Children: An Interactive exhibit comes to Salford

Megan Chapman | 18th May 2018

Fleur Darkin’s international phenomenon Innocence, in collaboration with Scottish Dance Theatre, is coming to Manchester to entertain its children.

The show, which is tailored specifically for children up to the age of seven, has had tremendous success across the world. It’s coming to The Lowry in Salford this Sunday (the 20th of May) for a one-day visit.

The smash hit show is inspired by William Blake’s famous poetry and his own childhood.

“Innocence came from being a mother. My children have really shown me how to re-see the world. I came across the story of William Blake, who saw angels in a tree on Peckham Rye at seven years old. His parents didn’t believe him and he got into trouble for “lying”. I wanted to create real-life angels for children to believe in because adulthood and experience are much over-rated. And actually, parenthood is a much happier experience when you have time to see the world as your child does.

The kids aren’t just in the audience, they get to go on stage with the dancers to play! They all pretend, along with their parents, to be lambs and tigers. The dance is accompanied by various animal noises, provided by none other than Paul Bradley (Three Cane Whale).

Its relaxed atmosphere lets the Kids discover and explore music and poetry whilst having huge amounts of fun; a great introduction for the little ones.
