Jamie’s Italian Restaurant Review

Jamie’s Italian in Manchester has been open for quite a few years now and it has been up there on my list of restaurants I have been meaning to go to. Finally, I decided to go and try out some of their dishes and give you my opinion of Jamie’s Italian.

Upon entrance to Jamie’s Italian, I was, to say the least, a little dismayed. My partner and I had dressed nicely expecting the world renowned chef’s restaurant to ooze elegance and grandeur. However, the Weatherspoon’s like tables and chairs paired with what looked like my great grandma’s old lighting fixtures was not the look I had expected, but hey maybe I just don’t like granny-chic.

Not to be deterred from the interior design, we carried inwards where we were pleasantly greeted and taken to our table on the balcony. The waiter then came over immediately to fill our glasses with some cooling water on the sunny hot day. This made my mood instantly change and I focused my mind on selecting some food.

Jamie’s Italian have a day time super lunch menu running at the moment and it is super affordable! For two courses it is £12.95, which is incredible value for money! However, the dishes from the main menu had caught my eye immediately, so I opted to choose from that menu instead.

I started with one of their mocktails, the ginger mojito which I must say was absolutely delicious! I could have sipped on these all day and night!

Then for starters, I ordered a starter of crispy squid (£6.75) and for mains I got the Italian steak and chips served with slaw (£15.95).

The crispy squid was on the more expensive side but we managed to share just one between the two of us and the taste made up for the higher price as it was scrumptious!

The mains came soon after and wow! I love garlic and this steak was smothered in it and seasoned to perfection! It was tender and a really good portion size for the price.

The chips were nice, again well seasoned, the only thing that slightly let it down was the slaw, which was red cabbage with beetroot. Personally, I prefer a traditional coleslaw and so would have enjoyed the meal, even more, had the slaw been slightly different.

My partner ordered the mixed grill and was amazed by the portion size. There was a large selection of meats and they were all cooked beautifully. The result of these giant mains meant we couldn’t possibly fit in a dessert even though the brownie sounded amazing!

So if you are looking for a place with amazing food but at a lower price, then I would definitely recommend going to Jamie’s Italian for the super lunch menu. However, if I were to go again that Italian steak and chips would be too yummy to resist!
