The partying and excesses of the festive season are over and for many it’s back to work, no wonder January can feel to some like the gloomiest month of the year…

Sounds good right? Now I’ve explained what they can offer, here’s what VIVA thought during our trip…
My first thoughts on Rookery Hall were how stunning the architecture is.
Despite being just ten minutes outside of Nantwich town, when you’re there you feel like you’ve stepped back in time and escaped deep into the country…
Upon arrival our bags were taken to our rooms whilst we made our way to the spa to unwind and get some treatments.
My treatment was a superfood facial using Elemis oils, it was amazing to give my skin a treat after all it’s been through (non-stop partying during December!). Fifty-five minutes later, I was half asleep from the calming atmosphere in the room, but took a look at my face and it was seriously glowing! My skin felt so soft and rejuvenated – just what it needed.
I then waited for Laura whilst she got a neck, shoulder and back massage. She advised the masseuse her stress levels had been through the roof over the past months, (moving to Australia!) so the lady performed some magic and released all of the built-up tension.

Soon enough we were both feeling #FRESH so did some laps in the pool and reclined in the hydrotherapy tub. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, it was amazing just to relax and enjoy the surroundings with no interference from the outside world.
Following this we did a few rounds in the sauna and crystal steam room. Our pores were being rejuvenated whilst we were enjoying some fresh Sorbet given by the attendant, what’s not to love?!
After a few hours in the Spa I felt well and truly pampered. We made our way to the room, which was modern with a homely feel. The décor is definitely ‘countryside chic’ and I was impressed by the modern yet vintage furnishings – it’s really keeping up with the times!
Following this we wined and dined at the on-site restaurant, where we enjoyed mains of Beef Wellington (with bourguignonne garnish) and pan roast wild cod fillet (with saffron potato, sea vegetables, moules marinière, red pepper crumb). You can find out more about the menu here.
We then caught up with the manager, who told us all about the fascinating history of Rookery and its restaurant/bar. When speaking of the bar offerings, he explained how ‘at Rookery we pride ourselves on our selection of gins, I recommend the Forest Gin, which is sourced locally in Macclesfield. We serve that with orange, mint – it’s our bestseller!’.
Sticking with our healthy January resolutions we enjoyed a Forest Gin (delicious!) then headed to bed to put some facemasks on and enjoy feeling like absolute royalty in a castle for the night!
Overall we left Rookery feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the new year. It’s inspired me to practice self-care this year after how amazing the Spa made me feel!
Not only would Rookery make a beautiful wedding venue, but it’s perfect to escape with a partner or close one to have some tranquil quality time in a fairytale like location.
Overall we rate Rookery Hall a 5/5. Beautiful hotel, revitalizing spa and expansive gin menu – you can’t go wrong!
