LIVE: Clean Cut Kid at Sound Control

After recently supporting Courteeners and The Kooks on their tours, Liverpudlian band Clean Cut Kid are now headlining on their own tour, performing in Manchester’s Sound Control last Friday night.

With their debut album Felt realised on the 5th May, the four-piece band have clearly built up a large fan base with a crowd of excited people all gathered around the stage awaiting their appearance.

As the band walked onto the stage they immediately displayed a warming and friendly presence. The set opened with the upbeat hit song Pick Me Up which created happy vibes encouraging  everyone to dance along.

White lights violently flashed from the back of the stage in time with the beat as We Used To Be In Love was played, making the crowd jump around frantically.

With the lights beaming down and everyone dancing joyfully around, the room got very hot quickly which resulted in the lead singer, Mike Halls, laughing to the audience saying “It’s F***ing warm in here”, in his strong scouse accent. The band looked so content on stage and it was clear how much they appreciated being able to play their music to the Manchester audience. You only had to watch their base player Saul Godman to see how much fun they their were having as he had a continuous large grin on his face, whilst looking directly to members of the audience singing along to the lyrics with them.

An instrumental break then lead to Runaway which just showed off how angelic like Keyboard player and singer Evelyn Halls’ voice is along side Mike’s. Their two voices pair perfectly adding a soft tone to the music.

The set was a rollercoaster of emotions, which wasn’t a surprise because the album Felt also created the same up and down feelings. After songs about the lead singers past breakup he then revealed the next song Evelyn was one he wrote about his wife and co-band member. Everyone cheered when he said this and Evelyn could be seen throwing her arms in the air, showing her appreciation.

After Halls announced that this isn’t the type of show for an encore they played Felt and Vitamin C, leaving the crowd all cheery, later explaining over to social media how happy the gig was.

Clean Cut Kid are a band not to be missed and will be continuing on with their tour over summer including performing at Y Not Festival and Hope and Glory Festival.
