Liverpool Music Week 2017: Takes over the city for the 15th Year

Recently crowned Best Metropolitan Festival at the UK Festival awards in 2016, Liverpool Music Week comes back with a bang for the 15th year – starting this week.

This Thursday, Disco and Funk legends, CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers will headline Liverpool Echo Arena to kick start the Liverpool-based metropolitan music festival.

To get the ten day festival started, CHIC and Nile Rodgers have promised to play all of their infamous classics. Expect to hear Le Freak, He’s The Greatest Dancer, We Are Family, Upside Down, Get Lucky, Let’s Dance and Good Times.

It’s a full city affair as venues across Liverpool provide show-stoppers across the ten day festival including; Liverpool Echo Arena, Invisible Wind Factory, Heebie Jeebies and many more.

A new milestone for LMW, also have fellow headliners – Everything Everything, Jungle, AJ Tracey, Perfume Genius and Zola Jesus.

As said by Wall of Sound: “LMW is about reflecting and championing the best of Liverpool’s culturally diverse and historically rich music scene, and the 2017 festival line up is bursting with choice for those in search of something different.”

The festival doesn’t only celebrate the already established artists, an array of budding talent from all over the North West have been added to the bill . With majority being Liverpool home grown; Ali Horn, Danye, Deja Vega, Fuss, GODONMYRIGHT, Jo Mary, L100 Cypher, Pink Kink, Rico Don, RONGORONGO, She Drew The Gun, Shogun, SPILT, SPQR, Strange Collective, SUDEBROWN, Tea Street Band, The BOHOS, Trudy And The Romance, VEYU, and Blackburn’s Violet Youth and Chester’s Peaness.

Liverpool’s local blog, Getintothis, have been working closely with Festival Director, Mike Deane, to assist with the support programme over the course of the festival. “Getintothis’ knowledge, understanding & enthusiasm for the Liverpool scene is unmatched by anyone else and we thought it was only fitting to invite Getintothis for a very special curatorial role in this year’s festival to celebrate their very own incredible milestone of 10 years in the game.”

Special events to look out for across the ten days are: LMW X ABANDON SILENCE PRESENT: ANTITHESIS, Mount Kimble, with guests, Palm Trax and Young Marco. Mount Kimbie, an electronic duo, have collaborated with such artists James Blake, King Krule, and Micachu. They are all set to hit Invisible Wind Factory this Friday, with tickets coming to £16.50.

Popular dream pop / indie band, Genghar, a name based on an original Pokémon, Gengar, have also joined the line-up as ones to watch. The band have previously done Leeds Festival, Glastonbury Festival and their debut album – A Dream Outside has been voted favourable amongst the likes of NME. They will be joined by local Liverpool bands Loved Ones and Her’s on November, 3rd pricing at £8.80.

Viva is most excited to be providing you with an upcoming review of a modern day 70s Funk and Soul band, Jungle. Most famous for their songs, Busy Earnin’, Platoon and The Heat,  the seven-piece have hit the Top 10 UK charts with their album as well as keeping in The Best Of lists over the years. With their unique sound, it’s a fitting headliner to in-keep with the diversity LMW are so infamously proud of. Look out for the full review of Jungle next week!

The closing party starring popular indie band, Everything Everything, will commence on November 4th bringing the festival to close. The closing party has been carefully curated amongst four stages around the city to provide LMW to go out with a bang. Expect to see the likes of Perfume Genius, AJ Tracey, Zola Jesus
She Drew The Gun, The Tea Street Band additionally with Liverpool’s new flourishing talent.
