It’s fun to play charity lottery and imagine spending your winnings. Learn how real winners have used their unexpected windfalls.

Over the years, various charity lotteries have provided fun, excitement, and an opportunity to give back for people across the world who enjoy the chance to play charity lottery games!

Some lucky players have won jackpots in their local charity lottery drawings with thousands of winners taking home a prize each week! Here’s a brief glimpse at some of their stories…

Burnley winner gives back

With some prompting from his wife, 80-year-old Robin from Burnley felt lucky enough to play charity lottery again after a brief hiatus. With a fantastic Mega Raffle win of £250,000 burning a hole in his pocket, he’s now quite glad he did!

He got the news while checking his slips at a local Tesco in Burnley, taking home the biggest prize offered by his local charity lottery for the month of February. However, the most heartwarming part of the story isn’t his win, but what he plans to do with the unexpected windfall! In addition to going on holiday, Robin and his wife are excited to be able to contribute more to their favorite UK charities: PDSA, Cats Protection, Guide Dogs, the Salvation Army, and the Royal British Legion.

Yorkshire co-workers play charity lottery and win big

What could be better than working alongside your best friend and making memories together in the office? Winning a £250,000 Mega Raffle jackpot from a charity lottery drawing together!

The two friends work together in a West Yorkshire Post Office and split the cost of a charity lottery ticket each time they share a shift. For fifty pence each, they’re now sharing a quarter million pounds in prize money!

What do they plan to do as winners of such a tremendous prize? Great friends think alike – both of them plan to gift their winnings to their children.

Waterford woman takes home 45,000 euros

Maybe it’s the luck of the Irish! Mary Doyle snagged her lottery ticket just before the Friday cut-off time, and it’s a good thing she did! Her numbers won the Snowball Telly Bingo game – but she didn’t even realize it at the time of the drawing. Rather than checking her numbers afterwards, she waited to watch the rerun that morning at 2:50am!

Mary says: “There is no fun in just checking the numbers in the shop, there’s the extra excitement in watching the numbers come out and crossing them off.”

But what will be the most fun is coming up with ways to spend her winnings. She and her husband, Dominic, plan to take their time deciding – in the meantime, their luck continues with a holiday trip they also received as part of their recent winning streak.

Donegal farmer finds 1 million euro prize

Sticking with Ireland, after his father gifted him a ticket to play the country’s National Lottery, Odhrán Doherty became a millionaire at the young age of just twenty-three years old.

His father, Liam, thought that Odhrán was trying to pull an April Fool’s Day prank when he called with the news of the big jackpot win – but soon realized that it was time to celebrate.

Both father and son work together at the family farm in Letterkenny – and may use the winnings to purchase some shiny new agricultural equipment to support their operation. The farm is sure to be in good hands for years to come!

Time for a neighbourhood block party

In Sweden, Gunilla was about to celebrate her fiftieth birthday in just one week, but she thought it would be just an ordinary birthday. Little did she know that she was about to become a lottery winner! A representative showed up on her doorstep unannounced to inform her of her big win, complete with a gold envelope and flowers.

Gunilla won 200,000 SEK – that’s around £18,000 – the best birthday present ever. However, the story doesn’t stop there – her neighbours Annelie and Ing-Mari were also named prize winners and received their own gold envelopes. It’s an exciting time for their entire community thanks to their good fortune.

Oosterbeek residents split 2 million euros

Thinking they were merely attending a Marco Borsato concert, eight charity lottery players were surprised with a huge prize of 2 million euros. Their cheques were presented to them with fanfare by Postcode Lottery ambassador Gaston Starreveld. The Dutch National Postcode Lottery gives away fifty percent of their gross proceeds to various local charities each year, totaling 284 million euros in 2011.

One of the Oosterbeek winners, Lonneke, says he couldn’t believe his eyes when the win was announced. He’s looking forward to using the money to finish the extension on his family’s home.
