Metropolis host their first party of the year in Manchester

Metropolis kicked off Manchester’s year of Drum and Bass last friday as it brought the first party of the year. Packing weighty DJs from up and down the UK, the lineup was full of biggest artists the scene has to offer. Open till 6am too, the night ran riot for nine hours leaving Manchester Academy in its trail after being blasted with the finest Drum and Bass.

The night started as it meant to go on; boisterous, energetic and absolute carnage. As people flocked in they psyched themselves up for the night ahead. The night really got going with North Base b2b Mollie Collins, as the crowd showed love for every tune. The old school originals did what they do best with seamless mixing from beginning to end. As the crowd made their way through the night they also packed down the pints, punishing their fresh payday packet.

Even when the tired ravers took a break to catch their breath, the Drum and Bass and Bassline pulsated continuously between the four sweat sodden walls. The night took a turn at 2am when bassline don Notion stepped up for his b2b with none other that Mr Virgo. Although not strictly Drum and Bass, it received just as much love as Diemantles previous electrifying set.

Bassline’s notorious duo My Nu Leng also took their place on the Academy stage to continue the warparth left by Notion’s b2b. For the ravers who were still hanging on, Metropolis left a special treat in the form Drum and Bass super group, SASASAS. Made up of two djs and four MCs, the group injected the final lease of energy through their live stage show.

Jumping around and wheeling several songs, the crowd followed by mimicking every action. Although their tracks might not be to everyone’s taste, the energy that the group showed was like none of the acts prior.

If Metropolis’ first party of the year is anything to go by, we can’t wait to see what more they have to offer. If this sounds like your kinda thing Metropolis is back for a round two on the 16th February from here.
