Newborn baby essentials
| 3rd March 2020
2020 has been the year of the baby for me, with little man Nico arriving on the 21st of February, it became time for me to step into the unknown and wade through the endless baby products to find out what’s hot and what’s not.
Having literally no clue about anything baby related, this challenge was probably one of the biggest of my life, and that’s just the shopping part. Lets start with the very best of the best.
First up and a good place to start are baby blankets. It’s a mind field out there, what with different weights, sizes, colours and prices, the choices are endless. My recommendation is PURE CASHMERES baby blanket. These are sumptuously soft cable-knit comfort blankets, crafted in cashmere to help your baby stay warm throughout the chilly winter months and perfectly lightweight for baby to snuggle in. It’s an indulgently cosy cover-up and thoughtful gift that is sure to be treasured all year round. Suitable for 0-6 months.
Or the Hangai Mountain Textiles Baby Blanket, it is absolutely perfect it will keep away any cold day and is water resistant. As a new mother you are paranoid that your baby is always exposed to the elements. This blanket will give you total piece of mind it is Yak down as well as hypo allergenic.
Next up is something that I was told was a must have but didn’t really understand why until now. Done by Deer Cozy Nest in Tiny Tropics from Scandiborn not only looks good, but is an absolute game changer for when the bay naps around the house. It means you can move from room to room and have a safe cozy snug for your little one to sleep in. I have used it everyday since he arrived.
Storage boxes are next, they may seem like a small addition to your home but they make a big difference. I couldn’t love these storage boxes more, luxury children’s brand Potwells has recently released a new collection that brighten up any young one’s room. Perfect for a playroom or bedroom, the storage solutions come in 15 different designs, from animal favourites through to mystical creatures and space aliens.
If you’re looking for a gift for christenings, a birth, a child’s birthday or a younger family member look no further, these storage boxes and chests are practical, fun and cute. The boxes are also great if you’re designing a room for a little one, or decorating a nursery for a new arrival. Made from soft wipe-clean materials and featuring a fun, fuzzy character on the front, the boxes can be stacked, can stand alone or fit inside cube storage units. They also flat pack, so are perfect for travelling as they’ll fit neatly into any corner.
If you are new to the baby game then swaddling will be almost impossible for the untrained like me, so a sleeping bag can be your little life saver and my choice for sure has got to be Bizzigrowin baby Sydney the Sloth sleeping bag,
The Sidney sloth sleeping bag will help soothe any little one to sleep, in beautiful soft jersey fabrics, with a soft fur applique sloth, just hanging around waiting to be loved.
Next is Ethqiue, the world’s 1st zero-waste beauty brand who have introduced a baby range – Little Ethique. Created with little ones in mind, the new solid baby range includes 5 products from tip-to-toe washing to a snoozy massage balm – perfect for giving your baby the TLC they deserve.
Ethique are on a mission to rid the world of plastic bottles and are the only company in the world devoted solely to producing handmade solid bars in place of liquid products. All Ethique’s products are plastic free, vegan, cruelty free, palm oil free and made from sustainable and ethical ingredients.
These handmade baby bath time bars will keep your baby’s skin hydrated, clean and soothed with nourishing ingredients including lavender oil, cocoa butter and coconut milk.
Disappointments so far the Philips Avent Natural Glass Baby Bottles, after just a couple of steams the bottles are basically useless and with quite a high price tag per bottle I would recommend steering clear or not steaming.
