Lets Hit The Gym And Tell 2018 What We Are Made Of!

Bethan Holmes | 5th January 2018

It’s 2018 and we are all looking at our post-Christmas belly’s just wondering how did we get here?

Are you finding getting yourself motivated to hit the gym and fulfil that #newyearnewme resolution is becoming more difficult than when you set yourself that target half way through a bottle of Prosecco.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. So let’s get ourselves motivated together and make 2018 the year that we achieved our fitness goals.

Here’s five top tips so you can become happier and healthier…

1. Set a goal

From personal experience, I know there’s no point in just going to the gym and moving around equipment for 30 minutes. You need to set a goal, is it to lose weight? To gain muscle? Tone a certain area?

Having a goal for yourself before you enter the gym is the best thing to do.

Also setting a goal will give you something to aim for! But, ALWAYS make sure it’s REALISTIC as you’ll get better results, see change and stay motivated.

2. Stay positive

We all have those really rubbish days, when all we want to do is to curl up in bed and never leave.

It’s so so so important to stay positive and get yourself moving.

Mental health is just as important as physical and know what you’re doing is amazing and to stick at it.

Be proud of yourself and persevere because taking those first steps to get active is an achievement in itself.

So, stay strong!

3. No one’s staring at you…

The gym can be a scary place for newbies or if you want to try out new equipment.

But, no one is looking at you! You’re all there for the same purpose, to get fit.

No one will judge you while you stand there and figure out equipment or because you haven’t got the technique completely down.

When people are in the gym, they are focusing on themselves and pushing themselves.

So, try out that new equipment, go to those classes you never thought you could and have the most fantastic and sweaty time.

If anyone does glance at you, they’ll be thinking “DAMN!! They’re killing it!”

4. Track progress

Photos can speak a thousand words.

Make sure you take a picture at the start of your fitness journey, so that when you’re having a bad day you can look at the picture and be proud of how far you’ve come.

Set up an Instagram account, even if it’s just on private. It’s such a great way to track your progress and you’ll be happy you stood in front of that mirror every week.

Don’t worry if the scales are telling you something you don’t want to see. You could be gaining muscle, which is an amazing achievement!

5. Stick at it

Never give up! You’ll get there, it just takes time. You’ll thank yourself in the long run for taking those first steps!

And ALWAYS be proud of yourself, because 2018 won’t know what’s hit it.
