Northern filmmakers Scott Elliott and Sid Sadowskyj will be presenting their debut film, Scott and Sid, with a special screening at the Odeon, Great Northern Warehouse in Manchester on Saturday 10 March.

Although Scott and Sid are from Yorkshire, award-winning film editor Chris Gill, some of the actors, crew and extras are based in Manchester – and chose the historic city centre as the location for many scenes.

Gill, has worked with Mancunian director Danny Boyle on 28 Days Later, the science fiction thriller which starred Christopher Eccleston, who was born and bred in Salford.

Ranj Nagra, who plays Mr Nanda, is from Castlefield and has appeared in Coronation Street, Doctors, and Scott & Bailey.

Scott and Sid, meanwhile, is an inspirational true story about two unlikely school friends from a Northern town – and has been tipped to be one of the biggest coming-of-age films since Billy Elliott.

Following the teenage lives of Scott (played by Richard Mason) and Sid (played by Tom Blyth) as they build a friendship through their different personalities and similar dreams.

Scott is a troubled teen under the care of, and disliked by, his foster parents, alienated by his peers and haunted by recurring nightmares.

While Sid is the kid, who just wants to be liked, an unconfident, awkward teenager with a dysfunctional background of poverty and an alcoholic mother.

Isolated and lost, the boys meet when Scott is expelled from multiple schools and transfers to Sid’s school. From the little attention and encouragement they receive from their families, they find faith in one another.

The tame, overly serious Sid is inspired by Scott’s wild and untamed spirit. While Scott is drawn in by Sid’s work ethic and motivation to do well. With everyone around them having low expectations of the boys, they become ‘Dreamchasers’, building lifestyles for themselves, bigger and better than anybody would imagine.

Motivated by ambition and entrepreneurial spirit, they launch two successful businesses while still at school. By their late teens the boys are doing things you never would’ve imagined a troubled teen and awkward recluse doing.

However, the two don’t hit the jackpot without a few mishaps on the way to reaching the stars.

Manchester’s stunning architecture drew the production team to film in the busy, centre of Manchester. Despite none of the main cast being from Manchester, there were extras from Manchester involved who took part in the film.

Scott and Sid, also took the opportunity to guest lecture at Manchester Film School and talk to the students about all things film.

The young creatives quizzed the duo on everything, from how to raise finance for a film to how they were distributing their £1.2million film on a national scale.

The students of Manchester Film School were given the opportunity to show Scott and Sid their own scripts and get guidance from the pair themselves, on how to get started in the film industry.

Scott said: “We were 15 when we decided we wanted to make a film. It’s taken a lot of hard work and dedication, but with these talks across universities and film schools in the UK, we hope to fan the fire inside of them and make them look up and go, what’s next! You never know, in that room could be the next Danny Boyle or Catherine Bigelow!”

Sid added: “The students we spoke to at MFS aren’t that much behind where we are now in our careers! We feel it’s important to offer our advice and hope they learn from our mistakes.”

Scott and Sid goes in general release in the UK and opens on Friday 9 March 2018 and is released on DVD and Digital Download on Sunday 12 March 2018.
