Our Favourite Hogwarts Teacher Passes Away

Alan Rickman – famously known for his role in the Harry Potter series as Severus Snape, the suspected bad guy who happened to live his life protecting the young wizard unbeknownst to viewers – passed away on Thursday “surrounded by family and friends”, after a battle with cancer.

Roles in Love Actually, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, and much more have asserted a firm place for Rickman as one of the most-loved British actors of the past 30 years. His death was mourned by a legion of admirers that have followed his career over the years.

Rickman is the second British icon to pass away from cancer this past week, following David Bowie’s death on Sunday. Co-stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to the star. Daniel Radcliffe wrote a lengthy post describing Rickman as “one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry”. It seems loyalty was not limited to his role as Professor Snape. Fans have paid their respects to0, with some even leaving flowers as a tribute to the star at ‘Platform 9 3/4’ located in King’s Cross Station.

As a Harry Potter fan myself, I would like to say thank you to Alan for being the best Severus we could have asked for. Always.

Rest in peace.
