Former Brit Award winner Paul Young is heading to Manchester’s Academy 2 on Tuesday 20 March 2018 – and he is joined by special guests China Crisis.

Young has released eight studio albums, one live album, 13 compilation albums, and 36 singles to date. Having short stints in several groups, Young became known in the 1980s for his baritone voice.

He is famous for hit singles such as Love of the Common People, Wherever I Lay My Hat, Come Back and Stay, Every Time You Go Away and Everything Must Change, all reaching the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart.

Paul Young’s passion for music came from an early age when  he  learnt  to  play  piano  and  then  the guitar.  On leaving  school  he  worked  with  his father  for Vauxhall  Motors and played in various bands at night.

He played bass guitar in his first band, but eventually lack of demand for bass players resulted in Young going back to his love for singing.

Fronting in bands, such as Kat  Kool &  The  Kool  Kats, StreetBand and Q-Tips, established Young in the eyes of the British public.

During his time fronting the Q-Tips, Young extensively toured playing 700 shows all over the UK. This period of intensive activity establshed Young’s unique voice and stage persona.

When the Q-Tips went their separate ways at the end of 1982, Young signed as a solo artist with CBS/SONY Records. Paul really came into his own with  a formidably accomplished solo debut album, No Parlezreleased in 1983.

The album included Young’s number one single Wherever I Lay My Hat, which maintained the number one spot for most of that summer. Followed  by  Come  Back  And  Stay, which maintained Young’s presence at the top of the charts.

With the release of his second album The Secret Of Association and the success of his single Every Time You Go Away, Young earned his status as a world star.

He won Best British Male the Brit Awards in 1985 and Best British Video for Every Time You Go Away  in 1986.

In  1991,  Young recorded a duet with his  friend Zuchero, which resulted in the worldwide popular single Sense Una Donna.

His self titled album Paul Young was released in 1997, after collaborating with singer/songwriter Drew Barsfield.

The album was full if introspective, storyline songs inspired by Young’s trips to the Southwest of America.

Paul  continues  to  write,  record  and  play  live.  In 2009, he toured Israel, New Zealand and Croatia for the first time, amongst the many other countries he regular visits.

These dates were in support of the No Parlez 25th Anniversary Edition re-release of his first solo album.

Young will, be performing his classics and tracks from his first solo album in 20 years Good Thing, which was released in 2016. The album features a collection of Memphis soul tunes.

Support comes from Eddie Lundon and Gary Daly, who formed China Crisis in Kirkby, Merseyside, back in 1979.
