Porta set to bring a taste of Spain to Chapel Street

SAM | 18th October 2018

Ben and Joe Wright, who founded the original Porta in Chester as a sister to their bistro Joseph Benjamin, are bringing a third branch of their multi award-winning tapas bar to Salford in the Chapel Street neighbourhood this November.

The Spanish-influenced tapas bars have earned a sought-after reputation in Chester and Altrincham for their laid-back atmosphere and outstanding handmade tapas classics, with the Chester branch earning a place in the prestigious 2018 Michelin Guide. The duo’s next venture on Chapel Street promises the same formula of ‘enthusiastically Iberian’ tapas dishes and drinks.

The menu will mirror that of Chester and Altrincham, where dishes and bar snacks include: salted Catalan almonds, patatas bravas, chorizo and lentil stew and fried Andalucian style squid with alioli. Behind the bar, there’ll be a wide range of specially selected Spanish wines, cava, beers and sherries.

Co-founder, Joe Wright, comments: “Opening our third Porta site in Salford is a dream come true for us and we have been so overwhelmed by the response. Our Head Chef, Jose Garzón, is extremely talented and has a brilliant instinct for flavour. Whether it’s casual drinks with some bread and olive oil or a sit-down dinner, we are eager to maintain the vibe of informal and fun, staying true to the ethos of a relaxed, independent neighbourhood restaurant.”

Subject to refurbishment and building work timescales, Porta is due to open on Chapel Street at the end of November 2018. For more information about Porta, visit: https://www.portatapas.co.uk.
