The Potting Shed Bar & Gardens Opens In Guiseley

Popular franchise The Potting Shed Bar & Gardens, opened it’s doors to their newest venue last week – after months of work to convert the old HSBC bank building, revealing its signature garden-themed design and a newly-developed lawned roof terrace.

Owners of The Potting Shed, Ormsborough Ltd, added a three-level extension to the rear of the building on Oxford Road, creating more space in the basement, ground floor and first floor. They’ve also excavated the existing basement to create space for extra cellar storage and the bar’s toilets, adjoining the original bank vault with its huge metal doors.

The terrace, which has a retractable roof allowing it to be used all year round, is one of the major features along with a first floor feature Gin bar and a large brightly-coloured outdoor shed for booth seating/dining.

The Potting Shed’s signature menu, for ‘feeding and watering’, specialises in freshly homemade food such as wood-fired pizzas and stacked burgers, craft beers, cocktails and artisan spirits.

Rebecca Eastwood, operations director, says the trademark garden theme is designed to be quirky and fun, giving customers unique features to enjoy whatever the weather.

She explained:

“The retractable roof on the terrace means we can use it all year – we can pull that back and have it open in the summer so people can make the most of the sun, then in the winter it’ll be fully heated so they can sit out there any time.

In our other Potting Sheds we have small individual sheds outside, but in Guiseley the space is to the side rather than the rear so we’ve made one big open shed, like a large summer house, which has partition seating in and that will be fully heated too.

Creating the extension has given us much more space on the ground and first floors, so we can now seat around 100 downstairs and 50 upstairs. When customers walk upstairs they’ll find the main bar area, with a feature gin bar serving speciality gins, and then they can walk out onto the roof terrace.

We have green touches right through the bar, lots of hanging baskets and plant pots, but especially the roof terrace – it has artificial grass and hedging so you really get that garden feeling out there.”

The VIP Launch party for the new venue was packed full of entertainment, with fire breathers, stilt walkers, and various food & cocktails to sample throughout the evening. The event was wall to wall with eager Guiseley residents who couldn’t wait to step inside Guiseley’s hottest new venue just in time for the festive period.

In fact, the launch event even gained the attention of Charlotte Dawson, star of MTV’s Ex On The Beach and E4’s Celebs Go Dating – who looked to thoroughly enjoy her evening sporting a large oversized red hoodie from The Couture Club and black leather knee-high boots as she posed up a storm outside the venue.
