PREVIEW: Mac DeMarco

Alicia Boukersi | 7th November 2017

After an incredible headline slot at the End of The Road festival as well as gigs at Edinburgh and Newcastle this summer, Mac DeMarco is back in the UK to perform tracks from his latest album This Old Dog.

The Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist will start his tour in London on November 17 before coming to Manchester Academy on November 25.

This Old Dog, which was released in May through Captured Tracks record label, has been widely hailed as one of the best albums of the year. It saw DeMarco’s usual happy-go-lucky blissful vibe melt away and gave in to more introspective tracks that reflected the pain of loneliness. Sounds distinctively miserable, but his fans have formed an emotional bond with it. Enough so that his tour sold out instantly, with new dates in Brighton and Bristol being added due to the high demand.

There’s sure to be a variety of upbeat tracks played next to more heart-rending and emotional material. ‘My Old Man’ and ‘On the Level’ from his new album are likely to be played live, along with ‘Salad Days’ arguably his most well known song.

Equally known for his entertaining performances as well as his musical talent, there are high hopes for Mac DeMarco’s tour.
