Queens of the Stone Age at the Eden Project July 2018

Ever since I was taken on holiday to Fowey for the first time in the back of the family Zephyr as a young boy I have loved visiting Cornwall and the surrounding area. There is definitely a certain magic that you feel when you’re on a Cornish beach exploring rock pools and inlets.

Just ten minutes up the road from Fowey at Bodelva the Eden Project sits nestled in a crater the size of 30 football pitches. Co-founded by Sir Tim Smit, Eden began as a dream in 1995 and opened its doors to the public in 2000, since when more than 19 million people have come to see what was once a sterile pit turned into a cradle of life containing world-class horticulture and startling architecture symbolic of human endeavour. Eden has contributed over £1.9 billion into the Cornish economy. Now, Dubbed the eighth wonder of the world by some, the Eden Project has become the ‘go to destination’ for all the family with its tropical biomes and fascinating global botanical garden.

I have been to Eden several times before but never get tired of visiting, as it is a constant work in progress and like all things in nature it is changing continually.

One thing that hasn’t changed and that is the quality of music that is put on through the summer with the Eden Sessions.

CRX supporting Queens of the Stone Age at the Eden Project

Eden has always secured the best bands in the world and none more so than Josh Homme’s Queens of the Stone Age who were ably supported by CRX, the LA rock band that’s a side project of the Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi.

Queens of the Stone Age are one of the worlds biggest bands and Eden were lucky enough to secure them this summer as it is the only band outing in the UK this summer apart from headlining Finsbury Park in London last month.

Riding high on the release of their acclaimed seventh studio album produced by Mark Ronson, ‘Villains’ is their first to hit the top of the UK album charts.

Cornwall were lucky enough to rock to a band at the top of their game amongst one of the most stunning back drops you could ever wish to be at.

It was a great evening at an amazing venue that reminded me how much I had missed Eden and Cornwall as a whole and I look forward to be back there hopefully soon.
