Review: H.E.R at the O2 Ritz Manchester

Chaise Simon | 11th March 2018

After a few of weeks supporting American singer Bryson Tiller on his USA tour H.E.R took to the O2 Ritz stage headlining her first ever UK tour with Manchester being her first stop.

H.E.R is an American singer/songwriter from California. She is best known for keeping her identity unknown as she wants to be only represented for her music and not her image. She currently has three EP albums out which are in high demand in America and have been acknowledged by some of biggest names in music like Chris brown, Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg.

The R&B singer took to the O2 Ritz stage Manchester on the 8th March 2018  with support act  Tiara Thomas.

The O2 Ritz is quite a small intimate venue however, I thought the venue was the right fit for the artist as it was her fist headline show in the UK. Her show is purely based around her voice and  as fan I felt it was more personal because the venue was so small.

Tiara Thomas opened the show with a very energetic performance that got everyone prepared for the main event.

After a 10-minute break H.E.R arrived on the stage with her trade mark sunglasses forming her signature silhouette that appears on all of her EP album artwork. She made a dramatic entrance with the song Say It Again that features on volume 2 of her EP. As the song played everyone’s sole attention was on H.E.R.

Half way through the show she got her guitar out and played a tribute to Ed Sheeran, singing his song “Make It Rain” which filled everyone in the whole room with Goosebumps and the crowd was silent for the whole performance as they watched in awe.

As she ran through her volumes of EP’s with the whole crowd on their feet, she began to sing “Lights on” and she said to the crowd “this will be my last song” moments later to screams and shouts came the request from the audience for one more song.

H.E. R  appeared on the stage again singing three more songs finishing with the beautiful song “Every kind of  Way” that had members of the crowd in tears. At the end of the song the crowd cheered for the singer for  a full 5 minutes as she looked on in shock and thanked  them over and over again.

Overall, I would say she put on a beautiful show that included some of the best vocals I’ve ever heard.
