REVIEW: Mallory Knox – “Best show of the tour so far!”

Beckie Bold | 25th April 2018

The 4 man band Mallory Knox played at Rebellion in Manchester on 22/04/18 as part of their 2018 tour. With the recent departure of old vocalist Mikey Chapman, Sam Douglas has now stepped up as lead vocalist. They are an alternative rock band from England who has been around for nearly 10 years.

Sam – Vocalist of Mallory Knox

The band came on around 9:00 pm and finished around 9:45/10: 00 pm. They mainly played their older music however they also played a couple of their new songs to show the fans what they had been getting up to since band changes. They opened their gig with their new single Black Holes.

The aesthetics of the show were very colourful. They had pink and blue lights, strobes and a smoke machine. It added more excitement to the show and to the atmosphere. Considering Rebellion isn’t the biggest venue, there isn’t exactly a barrier. It allows the audience and the band to feel closer. The connection between the band and the crowd was insane. The band had brilliant stage presence, constantly showing their energy and emotion. You could tell they were feeling proud and living their dream. You could also tell how ecstatic the crowd was to be seeing their beloved band so close.

Sam told the crowd that he had some news for everyone. “Last week we signed a new record deal which means we’re not f***ing dead yet haha” the crowd cheered with excitement.

Sam did incredibly well as lead vocalist since the departure of Mikey. He killed the show with his confidence, vocals, and love for his job and fans. “This is the best show of the tour so far. I just love you. Thank you” Sam told the crowd. The crowd were constantly singing along, mosh pitting when possible and had continuous energy throughout each song.

Joe – Guitarist of Mallory Knox

It was also Joe’s birthday (guitarist) so Sam got the crowd to sing Happy Birthday to him. “Better singing than mine. What the f***s that about haha” said Sam afterward. You can watch this down below.

The band ended the show with their song Better Of Without You which is from their 2017 album – Wired. It was a perfect song to end the night. The crowd sang their hearts out along with the band to end the night. It was a brilliant atmosphere rounded up by a massive applause from the crowd.

The gig wasn’t sold out however the turn out was pretty good and better than what the band expected. I caught up with Dave Rawling (drummer) after the show…  “It kicked off. It was a great show. I thought people were gonna be stood at the back saying you’re not Mallory Knox without Mikey however it wasn’t the case. It was amazing.”
