REVIEW: Crowd surfing, moshing and a lot of fun at Moose Blood!

Beckie Bold | 4th March 2018

Moose Blood are a four-piece band that formed in 2012. They are an emo/pop punk band and are currently signed to Hopeless Records.

The band are currently on tour around their home of the UK as their new album ‘I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore’ is set to be released on March 9th 2018.

The band played Manchester Academy on the 3rd March 2018 alongside support acts The Dangerous Summer and Honey Lung.

The Academy is quite a big room, however it was still very stuffy and full of sweaty people. Of course, this is a normal thing when you’re surrounded by thousands of people, squished together. It was packed! It was the first time I was seeing Moose Blood so I was full with nerves and excitement to see them. They were definitely up to the standard I had hoped for. They were absolutely as good as they are on their albums!

“Honestly the best band ever. They’re so good, just as passionate in person as on their albums.” –  Ana Joy King, Daisy Jane Smith, Jay Jones – Fans from the concert.

Honey Lung opened the show with their half hour set, warming up the crowd ready for the next support act The Dangerous Summer. “This is the biggest venue we’ve played” Honey Lung told the crowd.

The band interacted with the crowd well and you could feel the connection with the audience. You could tell this was a special moment for the band, playing their biggest venue. I’d never heard of the band before, however they are now on my playlist at home as they were that fun and new.

The Dangerous Summer then performed their set after the short (which I felt was very long) 15 minute break in between. More of the crowd were getting involved, more singing and more dancing. The crowd were really getting warmed up by the band and got everyone pumped for Moose Blood “Who’s ready for Moose Blood?!”. I was ready for Moose Blood for sure.

Both Honey Lung and The Dangerous Summer put on a excellent show, interacting well with the crowd and singing with so much passion. They were both very fun, moving around the stage and showing confidence. They both were bands I had never heard of however I’m a massive fan now!

After The Dangerous Summer had finished their set, it was time for the half an hour wait for the main act, Moose Blood. The break felt so long as the crowd were getting so hyped up and ready. People were spilling drinks, pushing to the front and singing along to all the break music, your typical gig routine. I love that routine.

Moose Blood finally arrived on stage where the crowd went wild with excitement. They opened their show with their new release – Have I Told You Enough.

The crowd were singing along with the band the whole way through the set. They had so much energy and so much passion to give, which they achieved at a high level.

Around 18 songs were played. They played old and new stuff so all the crowd could get involved no matter how long they had been fans. The calmer songs had everyone singing, where the crowd basically sang for the band. It was beautiful and the band showed their appreciation. The lighting was also a big part of the show, they always had a fitting colour to fit the feeling of the song.

When it came to their more up-beat songs, the crowd were getting sweaty! There were crowd surfers, moshers and also the daring ones that would sit on others shoulders just for that better view… or really in hope that the band would notice them.

The band played 3 of  their new songs. To open, to close and one in the middle. This was a superb way of splitting up their new and old stuff, it kept the crowd on their toes and interested.

Here’s a short video of the band playing their song Honey. You can see how the crowd were ecstatic and very much involved. It’s good to see the band making strangers in a crowd come together to all enjoy the music.

The show ended with their last new song of the night – Its Too Much. The gig was a splendid show, everyone was pleased and some were even emotional. It was an unexpected early finish to the night of around half 10. There was also sadly no encore or none of your usual ending speech from the band which was a shame. I was disappointed there was no encore because I feel it’s the best way to wrap up a gig. However the show was put on so well and was made very fun and exciting that no one could really complain.
