CHESHIRE: Drum & Monkey revamps menu with bigger and better dishes

Jessica Ward | 25th March 2019

Set in a quiet residential area of Alderley Edge, The Drum & Monkey has been a long-standing favourite amongst locals. With a large outdoor garden area, the summer months have always proved a success for the pub.

The Drum & Monkey is one of the few remaining traditional pubs in the area. After undergoing a slight revamp and an overhaul of their menu, the Drum & Monkey is once again buzzing.

From locals to celeb clientele, we simply had to go down and try out the new menu for ourselves.

We opted for the full three courses and went away barely able to move. We started with a british favourite, Giant Scotch Egg with brown sauce and the Old School Chicken Liver Pate with hedgerow chutney.

The Scotch Egg was huge, and I mean huge! Each half was the size of my hand. Unlike most place’s in Alderley Edge, they do not skimp on portions. Although the Scotch Egg was very tasty, we were blown over with the pate, definitely one of the best in the area.

It was then onto the main courses. I opted for one of the lighter dishes and went for the Chicken & Avocado Salad. The other half went for a dirty burger. The salad was great, what I liked about the dish was that the dressing came on the side (a lovely homemade honey and mustard) so you can put in as little or as much as you’d like.

The burger looked delicious. The thick cut chips really stole the show and the portion size again did not disappoint.

Finally, it was onto the dessert. We chose the apple crumble with custard and the chocolate brownie. Both dishes were superb, however, we did struggle to finish.

The staff were incredibly friendly throughout our whole experience. Although the pub was very busy the staff remained attentive, and all the food came out promptly.

VIVA Verdict: Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Perfect for a midweek dinner or a spot of lunch in the sun.
