Saddle Up For Gaucho’s Electro Brunch- VIVA Reviews The Argentinian Steakhouse’s Latest Offering

BeFunky CollageDid someone say Brunch? That awkward not quite breakie, not quite lunch, ahead of dinner. Basically it’s a meal you can drink with and start early, well that’s my understanding and thankfully that’s Gaucho’s too.

I took the yank, not the nice one, the Bronx one – Cranky Yankee,  who knows a thing or two about brunch as it’s something of a stateside institution.

The deal is you pay £45pp and then it’s unlimited drinks and food from the Electro Brunch menu for a two hour stretch. It’s on every Saturday from 11am to 3pm – apparently it started as being a Sunday ‘thang’ but Mancunians weren’t getting out of bed in time to make it on the Sabbath.

There’s different DJs and its hosted in the bar area, a chic mix of black booths, mirrored tables and that cowhide they love at Gaucho – you can also take over one of the private dining areas if you’re a larger group.

The first thing to say is that this is a great deal. There’s 12 brunch dishes to choose from, all good sizes but not so big that you can’t go crazy and try out a good four to five per person, and there’s a wide choice too.

On the drinks’ side, there’s a breakfast cocktail that changes every Saturday as well as a sparkling white (Argentinian as is all the wine here, and  a wonderful, quaffable glass or five it is), juice station for the freshest non-alcoholic beverages and Gaucho Bloody Mary’s, which we reckoned, other than the Liquor Store, were the best in town. Herby, tomatoey and totally tasty.

I kicked off with ‘steak and eggs’ which is a Churrasco (marinated to you) flat steak, bloody and great, in fact bloody great, all juicy andoozing with the yolk of a fried egg. Cranky Yankee started with Eggs Benedict and ‘let there be light’, gave it an unprecedented 10 out of 10 (cue fireworks).

Smashed avocado on toast was a totes healthy mouthful and did what it said on the tin, whilst the Fried Provoleta (deep fried cheese) had us groaning with calorific pleasure, as did the bell pepper and oregano frittata.

Eggs Florentine were scrummy, the ultimate mix of spinach and eggy goodness, whilst blueberry pancakes were the smash of the brunch, just delish.

As we are delicate little flowers, we couldn’t quite manage to taste eggs royale (with salmon), bacon sarnies or the oven baked chorizo sausages which comes tomatoes eggs and mushrooms.

The ambience could use a few more people, but it’s early days, and the music provides a great, chilled out vibe, backed by excellent services from Dan and Fabien. Visit here for further details and bookings.

VIVA verdict: A brunch cracker and a bargain for the standard of food, service and general chilling out. We’ll be back.
