There’s something so beckoning about the Ivy vibe, is it the green art deco interiors, the twinkling lights that promise a good meal and a good time or that no matter where you are, you know it will deliver?
And for those who haven’t tried the Ivy there’s good news as their January set menu is continuing until February, February the 9th to be exact.
So, if you’re still paying off Christmas, been hit by a tax bill or your energy direct debit has tripled, you can indulge in some much-needed luxury if you’re quick.
The evening set menu costs £28.95 for two courses or £34.95 for three and is available Sunday to Thursday.
It’s a bargain, offering some of the restaurant’s signature dishes and plenty of choice for vegan or vegetarians.
Options include their blackened cod, steak tartare and sirloin, so you can see this is the real deal.
We went to the Ivy York in the gorgeous St Helen’s Square, which is simply gorgeous, complete with opera singing buskers that provide the kind of elegant soundtrack that makes memories.
Although we were lunching and the set menu wasn’t available, we did actual pick a couple of those dishes because it was what we fancied. Showing that it’s a set menu that offers real choice.
The sirloin was one that we chose and it delivered with the beefy juicy taste you want, whilst the accommodating and pleasant servers let us try this with both a bearnaise sauce and a salsa verde sauce that was meant for the seabass but was divine with steak.
We enjoyed this with thick cut chips (you can choose this as a side that’s included if you’re going for the set menu), some fabulous broccoli and spinach. Just yummy.
Another choice that is also on the set menu is the chocolate bombe. It’s pure theatre as the bombe comes as a perfect ball of chocolate housing vanilla ice-cream and a salted caramel sauce is poured over, dissolving the shell and leaving a splendid, gooey treat. One for the ‘Gram’ and one for those with a sweet tooth.
Other dishes we indulged in (starters from £6.75) was my favourite chicken liver parfait, which looks so pretty, like a mandarin and is infused with a fruity flavour as well as the rich pate, wonderful on the accompanying brioche.
Mains are from £13.95 if you’re not on the set menu and I opted for Chicken Milanese which comes with a truly wonderful truffle sauce, we kept at the table to dunk our chips in.
And we had the best bottle of red ever to wash the food down with, with house wine starting from just £21 a bottle.
The deal is available in all the Ivy brasseries so treat yourself and enjoy it! For staycation special stays in York click here.
