Sun’s out and well that means new seasonal food and drink menus from some of VIVAs’ favourite eateries including The Ivy Spinningfields.
The gorgeous and literally blooming restaurant (it must be one of the most Instagrammable restaurants in the city), is making the most of seasonal produce to tweak their menu and has also added a few summer cocktails, ideal to quaff whilst basking in the sun so pay a visit to see what’s on.
VIVA tried a new goat’s cheese and courgette tart (£8.75), with artichoke tapenade, mixed herbs, and truffle crème fraiche sauce to start, which was a nice tangy mix of flavours but not as good, as a superb knock out dish of scallops (starters are from £7.50).
Onto mains (from £14.95), there’s a new pan-fried salmon fillet (£17.25) served with asparagus spears, courgette ribbons, toasted pine nuts, and a chive velouté addition and a delicious monkfish and prawn curry (£18.95) served with a Malaysian curry sauce, choy sum, shaved coconut, chilli, sweet potato crisps and fluffy jasmine rice.
VIVA tried the latter, because quite frankly it’s right up our street and it didn’t disappoint with a wonderful, velvet sauce that brought all the gorgeous flavours together. We also ordered a superb lemons sole, served with capers and almonds, a menu classic that always delivers.
We were washing this down with a light red (wines start from £25 for house bottles) and tried two of the summer cocktails.
I loved my Summertime Brum (£12.75), with Olmeca Reposado Tequila, Pampelle Grapefruit Aperitif and mint, grapefruit, lime & sugar, which had a wonderful vanilla flavour.
Other seasonal cocktails are the Bloodflowers Margarita (£11.50), a twist on a classic Margarita with Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila, which again, VIVA relished as it came with a spicy kick that works.
There’s also a St Germain elderflower liqueur, blood orange, lime and orange juice and the Mango Colada (£11.75), a tropical dream made with La Hechicera Reserva Familiar Rum, mango, coconut and lime, to try.
Desserts are from £7.25 and to celebrate Wimbledon there was a new white chocolate special of their classic chocolate bomb, which looks like a tennis ball and again is one for your ‘gram’.
There’s also a delicious almond and blueberry panna cotta (£7.95) for dessert, featuring a limoncello sauce, almond tuile, and gold flakes, an indulgent taste to make the most of summer.
Other summer specials include a chargrilled halloumi (£14.95) starter with spiced fregola, tomato and red pepper salsa, crispy onions, herb mayonnaise and coriander cress and a strawberry Eton mess sundae (£9.25) with meringue, Chantilly cream, and baby basil.
It’s inclusive too as the Ivy offers vegan and veggie menus and GF options, with brunch, afternoon tea as well as lunch and dinner or you can just grab a drink and grab a view too on the roof top terrace.
The summer menu is available at The Ivy Spinningfields until Wednesday, 31 August. To book a table, visit www.theivymanchester.com.
VIVA verdict: The new summer menu is a wonderful way to enjoy all that’s best about the season and indulge in some gorgeous new dishes and drinks in a stunning setting.
