Printworks Beatles Competition smaller

To celebrate the launch of the Beetle Hotel on its rooftop garden, The Printworks is extending its regional search for Beatles lookalikes, so submit your entry before Friday 24th July.

The Beetle Hotel is a bespoke insect biome installation, providing shelter and habitat for around 100 common ground beetles. The Beetle Hotel is the latest addition to The Printworks’ sustainable urban rooftop garden, which, last year, won Manchester City Council’s prestigious Biodiversity Hotspot Award for its positive contribution to local biodiversity.

The beetles join the flourishing urban project, which already features an allotment, wild flowers, a herb garden, a chicken coop, and Bez’s bees, housed on the roof following a partnership between The Printworks, Bez from The Happy Mondays and Hard Rock Cafe.

To raise awareness of the beetles’ new residence, The Printworks is running an online search to find local lookalikes of their musical namesakes, and due to popular demand, has extended the deadline for entries. Manchester residents are invited to come together to nominate friends or family who look or dress like members of the iconic band. If you are an avid John Lennon fan and like to follow his fashion, or perhaps you have a penchant for Paul’s suits and boots, now is the time to (twist and) shout about it. Just send in a photo to The Printworks’ Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages or email your entry in to beatleslookalikes@jampr.co.uk.

Entries will be judged and a shortlist will now be announced on Friday 24th July. The three finalists will be put to a public vote on social media with the overall winner announced on Friday 31st July. The winner will receive dinner and drinks for four at Hard Rock Cafe, where there are displays of authentic Beatles memorabilia.

Fred Booth, The Printworks’ Centre Director, said: “The Beetle Hotel is part of our environmental strategy to welcome wildlife and nature into our rooftop garden. We’re immensely proud of all we’ve achieved through the ecological development of the garden, and it’s been hugely rewarding to watch it grow over the last three years.”

He added: “The installation of the beetles is just the next step in our urban garden project. Manchester has Beatles fans of all ages, from four to 64 and our lookalike competition is a great way for people of Manchester and day-trippers visiting the city to get involved with Beatles Day. Whether you have a mop top, like to dress in their psychedelic style or know someone who has a look of John, Paul, Ringo or George, send entries in before Friday 24th July. We look forward to seeing the photos and we know it will be a tough choice, but we’ll get by with a little help from our friends.”
