All dressed up and somewhere to go…The bars and restaurants will soon be opening and that means getting out of your loungewear and into something a little bit dressier.
But what to wear? If you’re not one of those glamazons who have been putting the bins out in an evening dress, you’ve probably been living in trackie bottoms and PJs.
Well, now is the time to emerge peacock-like from the ashes of the Coronavirus lockdown in your come-and-hang-out (at a distance) with-me wardrobe!!
Don’t hold back. After all it’s been months since you’ve been able to sashay in style. You may even be able to get a much-needed hair re-vamp before the summer lunches and nights out we’ve all been fantasising about!
Ramp up your look
Abbey Clancey x Lipsy £78 next.co.uk
Missing the races, posh parties a friend’s wedding? Then time to give a statement dress a whirl! You really deserve to feel full-on fabulous after having to endure months of dress-down. Not suggesting you wear a full-length gown to the local pub, but if you’re throwing a garden party, it’s time to go all out to impress.
Do the white thing
Jacket, £59.99 and dress, zara.com
What is the colour of the season? It’s white of course! It looks awesome in the sunshine and will lift your spirits in a flash. A white jacket is a wardrobe must-have that can be worn to striking effect. It looks like you’ve made an effort, even when you haven’t!
Hit new heights
Gold wedges, £65, office.co.uk. Lead featured image: Malachi Sandals, £43, Head over Heels, dune.com
When was the last time you wore a stiletto? Heels are a short cut to elegance, but if you can’t bear the thought of making the transition straight from comfortable trainers to a four inch heel, why not wear a wedge instead? It’s what Kate Middleton would do and if it’s a good enough look for Princess Kate, it’s good enough for us!
Have a bling fling
Gold chain, £29.50 oliverbonas.com
Jewellery is one way to give your favourite top or dress a new lease of life and instantly add ‘made an effort’ points. Trends to rock in the pub garden include shells, pearls and 80’s inspired gold chains.
Look smart
Betty Barclay jacket, £155, blouse, £55, trousers, £95, stockists: 0207 436 6364
Tailoring is still hot for the Summer. A jacket and trouser combo in a light pastel or cream shade is ideal for day-to-evening dressing. Wear it with a shell top for the office and with a cami and jewellery for night. You’ll also get extra mileage out of your Summer suit as holidaywear. It’s the perfect thing to wear on a short haul flight with sunnies and a straw hat.
Get the go-to dress
Drop hem mini dress, £95, foreverunique.co.uk
This is the dress you just sling on and you’re instantly ladylike. It’s a day dress but with a twist. Think body-hugging, a slinky fabric and a shorter length to show off your tanned legs (well what else can a girl do when it’s Summer in lockdown? Sunbathe of course!)
Blue floral print long sleeve mini dress, £90, foreverunique.co.uk
Cover up
Leather biker, £399, purecollection.com
Well, I hate to be a Debbie downer but while daytime in the UK Summer can be hot, it can get pretty cold at night which is why you need a stylish jacket. You could carry a cardi around, or a shawl but for me a leather, or faux leather jacket works for day, night and well into Autumn. It’s a classic that can give any look an edge.
