Ok we know we’re in lockdown but hopefully we will be out of it in time to make the most of the festive holiday period and whilst foreign holidays are a distant memory for most it’s good to know the United Kingdom is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
It is a famous travel & leisure destination for many reasons from landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Big Ben to the luxurious rolling green hills of Yorkshire or even the Mersey beat of Liverpool.
It is time to view our own country as oversea visitors do as a fascinating country with oodles of culture and the birthplace of many artists, actors, sports athletes, and other important personalities.
To get the most out of your experience, take a read of these handy top tips before you travel in and around the UK.
Let the train take the strain
Trains are still running and hopefully we will be able to use them for leisure as well as work and they can be the ideal way to explore if you are planning to visit cities and towns such as historic Oxford and York to the bustling capital and regional cities with great nightlife, eating out and shopping, for when we’re able to enjoy them.
The beautiful thing about this is that you can enjoy the view, watching other small villages, you can rest or you can relax playing some arcade or blackjack online on your smartphone until you arrive at your destination. For example, from London to Edinburgh it takes only four hours by train, making it a great way of travelling around the country when the borders are open once more.
Take in some culture
Museums and art galleries represent a great way to gain more knowledge about the history and culture of a country. Luckily, almost all of Britain’s museums and art galleries are free, and because of that, you should take advantage of this opportunity.
You can choose between a large number of important museums such as the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, Bank of England Museum, World Museum Liverpool, British Museum, and many others.
Be prepared!
Wherever you are planning to visit in the United Kingdom no matter the season, you should make sure you pack clothes for rainy and sunny days also. Our climate is changeable and because of that make sure you also pack clothes for cold weather. Either way, you can find many shops where you can purchase clothes if you forgot something at home.
Your best holiday could be on your doorstep
The United Kingdom is an amazing country so why not turn the fact travel abroad is something of a gamble and enjoy what is on your doorstep.
There are plenty of things to do, many important attractions to visit and being a country with a great history and a lot of culture offers you a lot of opportunities to learn more about our own country.
You never know, your best holiday ever may be here at home!
