When I was a youngster, I used to love visiting car park markets in Northern France on family holidays. The trinkets, clothing and especially the food – it was always enough to keep me very much occupied, regardless of the often contemptible spring weather.

Although these types of markets are not so much of a regular feature in London, there is a rather interesting market opening this weekend in a Shoreditch car park and it may just be the number one place to be this spring, regardless of the contemptible spring weather.

The Urban Food Fest is back for 2016, with the weekly night market promising to the biggest yet. Open from 12pm to 12am every Saturday, the launch party is this weekend – the 5th March – with the market running all the way until December. And its free entry for everyone.

Opening night will see a ‘Hippy Hipster’ theme come into play, with 15 traders to take their positions for what is sure to be a blockbuster Saturday, with dishes including “Sgt. Peppered” extra spicy chilli chicken wings, “Psychedelic” shredded pork cornflour buns, “Peace Out” halloumi BBQ brioche, “Make ‘Peas’ Not War” Jamaican fried rice and pepper pot stew, “Rolling Stones” Italian Parma ham bruschetta, “Rainbow Tie Dye” maple syrup and banana French crepes, and “Glastonberry” salted caramel and dairy milk topped waffles.

Brazilian Beef Wrap

And if that wasn’t enough, there will be plenty of tantalising drinks available, with Shoreditch craft beers, specialist ciders, wine, prosecco and bespoke hippy cocktails all joining the party. These cocktails include “Hipster’s Life” ginger beer with white rum, and “Flower Power” raspberry, pear and vodka, while blueberry foam tequila shots are sure to be a big hit.

Be sure to get in the party mood, as not only will there be live music throughout, but those in ‘hippy hipster’ fancy dress will receive a free shot from the bar. The best costume of the lot will win a bottle of Champagne!

VIVA London will be down, possibly head to toe in flowers. We’re gunning for the champers – in the friendliest way possible. Dance off?
