Waltz Your Way Into Marriage – The Top First Dance Songs And How To Choose Yours

Sophie Parkin | 15th January 2016

sdssfsYou’ve just committed your life to one another, it’s your first dance as Husband and Wife, and all eyes are on you.

For some ‘Bridezillas‘ you will have forced your Fiance to attend dance classes as part of the strict military schedule that will see your day go as perfect as possible, I mean, after all it is the biggest day of your life. But in the midst of all the chaos of planning, what song will you choose to introduce you as Mr and Mrs?

To inspire newly Weds, The Wedding Show asked brides and grooms around the country to reveal their first dance songs and their top 10 chosen.

The top 10 are:

• Adele – Make You Feel My Love (2008)

• Take That – Greatest Day (2008)

• Clint Black – When I Said I Do (1999)

• Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud (2014)

• Queen – You’re My Best Friend (1975)

• Shania Twain – You’re Still The One (1997)

• Lionel Richie – My Destiny (1992)

• Frank Sinatra – Strangers In The Night (1966)

• Lionel Richie – Truly (1982)

• Labrinth ft Emeli Sandé – Beneath Your Beautiful (2012)

Aw, you can just hear the romance blossoming!

sdsfsdHowever, for those couples not so fortunate to know what song they would like to choose, or for those too picky to decide, VIVA have to top tips to guide you to that moment to remember:

  1. When picking the song, it is a given you and your partner must actually like it. Pick a song you both have liked for years, not a hit in the charts that you will look back on in utter embarrassment and horror that you actually liked it!
  2. The scary part now… Think about the dance. Yes you actually have to dance, and in front of a lot of gushing eyes. So make sure it is a song you can actually move to.
  3. Keep it clean! Your 82 year old Grandma does not want to be listening to rude words, keep it PG and use a radio edit.
  4. Pick an unusual song. As appealing as the songs listed above are, pick a song that means something to you and your partner. This could be a memory – that first gig you ever went to, etc.
  5. This is YOUR first dance, and usually, you only get one time for this. So don’t worry what guests think.
