Vacation wardrobe? Sorted. Sunscreen and bronzers? Done. Styling and UV protection for your hair? Errrm?

While the damage isn’t as obvious as bright red sunburn, your hair pays the price just the same. Overexposure to the sun can leave the hair prone to breakage and bleaching, along with ageing it making the hair weak causing your colour to fade. Salt water and chlorine can wreak havoc on our tresses so its essential that we provide our hair with the proper care. It’s not just about prevention it’s also about treating with after sun care too.

No one wants to be taming their hair for hours and missing out on serious tan time, so here are a few versatile looks to help you on your way this summer.

Natural waves

When embracing our natural texture its all about selecting the right products to enhance what we’ve got. GiGi Hadid and Gisele Bundchen rock beach waves like they created them, making it look effortlessly chic. Start off by using a nourishing shampoo like Kevin Murphy Hydrate.ME shampoo (£20) and conditioner (£21) with the brand created and crafted in Austraila the products all contain sun protection. They are also free from harmful parabens and sulphates that can build up on the hair leaving it dry and life less. Starting off your hair routine with a solid foundation like this will allow full potential when it comes to styling. Then roughly take inch thick sections and twist Kevin Murphy Hair Resort spray (£21) through damp hair. Leave to dry naturally or dry sections through with a hairdryer, working through a little Kevin Murphy UN.Dressed (£22) when finished to break up the texture and add piecey movement to give a more lived in look.

Polished waves

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Blake Lively do a polished beach wave beautifully. The key to this mirror shine and silkiness is your condition. Into damp hair, work through Kevin Murphy Body Builder ((£19) this ultra light, non sticky mousse will not only nurture dry hair root to tip but provide memory and structure to your style. Dry through with a paddle brush or ceramic roller brush to smooth through the hair. Then by taking large sections curl through the hair with a medium to large tong or wand, ensuring all your curls are going the same direction. When this is completed spray through Windle and Moodie light satin hairspray (£22) to give both hold and silicon-free gloss. Finally brush through with a soft bristle brush to encourage the hair to sit into a bouncy wave. A great way to keep your style staying hydrated and ultra luxurious is to mist through Kevin Murphy Shimmer.Shine and for you gorgeous blondes Kevin Murphy Shimmer.me blonde. They have light reflecting particles to not only act as a repairing oil spray but also to enhance your colour.

Messy waves

To give a ultra messy, salt strewn wave rocked by gals like Jessica Alba and Jemima Kirke. It can take a little more effort but most definitely worth it. Prep towel dried hair with Kevin Murphy Leave-In repair (£28) not only is it wearable treatment but a great addition to styling sun soaked hair. Taking medium to large sections use a straightening iron at a slight angle (45 degrees if you want to get technical) and pull down through the hair to create a slight wave and kink. Alternate the way you hold the iron for a super disheveled feel, it doesn’t matter if its only a slight bend or kink as it will add to the overall look. Once waved iron over some of the ends to add a relaxed bo-ho feel. Work through a generous amount of Windle and Moodie day and night cream (£21) to add moisture and to create separation. Even spraying through a hair spray-come-dry shampoo like Kevin Murphy Doo.Over (£22) to created that matte beachy feel with added hold.
