She may have only been a few hours old but the new princess has graced every front page of every newspaper in the country over the bank holiday weekend following the announcement of her birth. We expected nothing less than what we got surrounding the arrival of the new princess. Including the guessing of her name, which family member she looked most like and the most recent question, who are her godparents going to be? Princess Charlotte has definitely created media frenzy, as her big brother George did in 2013.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on Saturday 2nd of May 2015 at 8:34am, weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces. The Duke and Duchess have carried on the long tradition of family names by choosing Charlotte, which is the feminine form of Charles, the name of two former kings and the Princes of Wales, the new princess’ grandfather. There are several other connections with the name, it is the middle name of the Duchess’ sister Pippa Middleton and it is also the name of William’s cousin Charlotte Spencer, Earl Spencer’s youngest daughter. The couple have also chosen two middle names that honour both the Queen and the late Diana Princess of Wales.

Camera’s waited outside the Lindo Wing in the cold weather on Saturday to see a glimpse of the new princess and were surprised with the arrival of William with Prince George. The princess was acquainted with her big brother George for the first time and he stole the crowd’s hearts with his appearance as he waved to the cameras. Shortly after, the Duke and Duchess showed off their sleeping beauty as they stepped out of the hospital in the afternoon for a brief photograph before taking the tiny tot inside. They were seen leaving the hospital shortly afterwards to get some well-deserved privacy and rest at Kensington palace.

Before the name of the princess was announced, many celebrations happened around London including Royal gun salutes being fired simultaneously at Hyde Park and The Tower of London, Big Ben chiming at 2pm and Stevie Wonder’s Isn’t She Lovely being played before forty one volleys rang out across the park, fired by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

The Princess of Cambridge is fourth in line to the throne behind Prince Charles, her father William and her not so big brother George. There have been kind messages and congratulations across the globe including David Cameron, The Archbishop of Canterbury and Barack Obama.

Here at VIVA we want to congratulate them on the birth of the new princess and we wish the Duke and Duchess and their son George health and happiness on this wonderful occasion.
