The definition of a bad idea = Organising and hosting a dinner party at 37 weeks pregnant.
The definition of a good idea = Calling in the experts and letting Yhangry take over.
Let me elaborate. Due to rather unfortunate timing around Christmas, myself and my other half had to postpone our annual Friendsmas gathering due to COVID. This Friendsmas was particularly important to us, as it was the last Christmas and get together before the arrival of our baby girl, who is due any day now.
We had arranged at the beginning of January to host our friends for our very last get together – child free, however, I had not anticipated exactly how pregnant I would be. Daily activities which I wouldn’t usually bat an eyelid at doing, suddenly felt as though I was climbing Mount Everest.
At this present moment I cannot even put my own shoes and socks on, nor can I get out of the bath without assistance. Life is hard work and I have definitely reached the “get this baby out of me” stage.
Suffice to say, as our dinner party date loomed closer and closer, the fear that I would not be able to complete my hosting duties were beginning to worry and overwhelm me.
It was at this opportune moment, that the team at Yhangry got in touch with me, to share their good news, that after much success in London, they have decided to branch out into Manchester and offered us the opportunity to be the first to try out their private chef offering.
Well, as you can imagine, I jumped at the opportunity, and I put my dinner party plans in the hands of the Yhangry experts.
As featured on Dragons Den last year, and after securing investment from not one but two dragons, Yhangry have created an affordable private chef platform for private parties. The Yhangry chefs come from a wide array of backgrounds, from culinary schools to some of London’s finest restaurants.
The Yhangry website is simple and straightforward to use, simply enter your chosen date and party size and choose the dishes you would like to be served either from a set menu, or tailor your own.
There is a minimum spend of £100, the costs vary depending on the dishes you choose and the amount of guests you are catering for.
We decided on a Mexican theme for our evening and chose a selection of dishes to create a relaxed and informal three-course meal. We liked the idea of sharing plates, so we opted for the loaded nachos to start, followed by Chipotle roast chicken with chipotle mayo, salsa, guacamole and tortillas. For dessert we had the pineapple empanadas which were simply divine, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Once you have confirmed your booking, you will be asked to choose a time slot for your grocery delivery, usually the day before. This came to us through Ocado, we simply put all the groceries to one side, ready for the chef on the day.
Chef Alex turned up at 3pm as we planned to serve the first course by 5pm. All we had to do was show Chef Alex around the kitchen, he gave us a brief on what he would do, and we discussed timings etc.
Chef Alex really looked after us. Being so heavily pregnant he made sure I did not lift a finger, treating me just as he did all the other guests. Not only did he cook and clean, but he also served all the food and drinks for the evening, regularly popping in to see if our party needed anything else.
Not only was Chef Alex an incredible host, but his food put smiles on all of our faces!
After all the food was served and myself and my guests were fit to burst, and barely able to move, Chef Alex cleared away all our plates, and cleaned the entire kitchen, leaving us a few leftovers to reheat later and said goodbye for the evening.
Once our guests had left, it was as if the party had never happened. The kitchen was spotless and the dining room as it was before our guests arrived. We were able to head straight upstairs and retire for the evening, without spending the last few hours of the evening tired whilst cleaning, as we would have done had we hosted ourselves.
Overall, Yhangry is great value for money, our dinner worked out at around £33 per head, taking into consideration the chefs time and attention to detail, it really is a steal. We not only had a lovely meal on the night, but we were given the leftover groceries and prepared food which not only took care of dinner the next day, but also saved us having to top up our weekly shop.
Yhangry is launching in Manchester from 1st February 2022. For £50 off your first booking use code: WARJES593 at yhangry.com
