Web Team | 23rd January 2020

Traveling to Norway has become a lot easier since the direct flight from Manchester to Oslo was added and it has become a very popular destination among the U.K fold to visit Norway in the warmer months.

If you’ve always wanted to visit Norway but were somewhat hesitant now it is as easy as it has ever been to get there, but that’s not the most challenging part of traveling to Norway.

If you want to explore Norway but have no idea where to start or what to focus on we’ll help you find out everything you need to know about Norway and how to plan your trip according to what you enjoy the most. While you can search up all the basic information easily we’ll try to show you the underground version of Norway and what to focus on during your trip there.

Nature is the main attraction

If you’re ever looked into Norway even slightly, you would have guessed that a lot of its appeal comes from its breathtaking nature. Fjords are deep, narrow and elongated sea or lake drain that is surrounded by steep land, created as a result glacier cuts that form a U-shaped valley by ice segregation and abrasion of the surrounding bedrock. They are one of the most impressive sights you can ever see while traveling and Norway has more than enough of those. There are multiple tours that can take you to see those with a group of travelers or if you are an experienced hiker maybe you should challenge yourself to go there without professional supervision. Hiking in Norway is absolutely crucial to get the full experience and see the country in its full light but it is also extremely hard to hike in extreme weather conditions especially with limited sunlight so try and plan your trip around the warmer months. If you’re not the one for crowded places and big groups of tourists hiking together then avoid choosing months like July and August and go a bit earlier in the year.

Norway has “unique” regulations

While you may think that since it is located in Europe it is similar to all the other European countries you would be mistaken. Actually Norway is quite unique in a lot of its regulations and government policies and has a long-standing history of protecting its regulations at all costs and not succumbing to the outside pressure. Norwegian are very confident in their culture and their ruling system so be aware of that when visiting the country. One of the best examples of this is the gambling regulation that has remained pretty much unchanged while all the countries around Norway are adapting to fit the international standard. Even online betting websites in Norway operate under the government monopoly but people still enjoy them without any consequences. Norway has continuously stayed loyal to its existing set of regulations and look like they are not going to change their mind anytime soon. The country, its people and the government are quite confident about their country and achievement and it shows on a micro and macro level.

One of the greenest countries in the world

By the end of 2019, almost half of the cars in the country were electric and this trend is growing every year. Norway is one of the countries that prioritized green living and sustainability and implements practices that promote this approach in their day-to-day lives. This might seem controversial with all the oil drilling that goes on in Norway, but clearly the country is trying to make up for its environmental footprint as much as possible by implementing different sustainable lifestyle changes. For example, tourism can be very anti-sustainable and traveling by planes is actually very damaging to the environment. In Norway, you can see one of very few ‘sustainable” tourist destinations that is fully in its natural state and hasn’t been altered for the purposes of attracting more tourists or generating extra income. For example, the Svalbard islands are all sustainable tourist destinations and offer the very best of Norway to the visitors.

Norway is a unique country that can feel like a nice change from the typical tourist destinations. In addition to that, it can be enjoyed even during the off-seasons when there probably won’t be too many tourists there. It is a great travel destination for those who enjoy scenic views, chill atmosphere with the comfort of city life easily accessible. Norwegian culture is still somewhat unknown to the majority of the world but that is just starting to change as the shift moves from more traditional destinations to less obvious travel choices and unexplored territories. Norway offers a nice balance of nature, city life, and entertainment which makes it one of the most perfect places to explore during your holiday. If you love nature and want to travel sustainably Norway should definitely be on top of your list.
