The evergreen Ivy Manchester, now with a new outside ground floor terrace btw, is a beacon of luxury where all COVID blues can be left at the door for a thoroughly indulgent feast with its new, brasserie autumnal menu.
It’s not cheap so this is a treat but we’re worth it and who doesn’t need a bit of me-time while we can all still dine out.
All your favorites are still there but some have been given a new season make-over.
The biggest changes are to the starters (from £6.75) and VIVA loved the new beetroot carpaccio which looked as pretty as autumn leaves with its vibrant purple hues and tasted rich, tangy and velvety in equal measures.
VIVA’s favourite chicken liver parfait in the city was too good to resist and lived up to its predecessors all washed down with a light Beaujolais (wine from £21 a bottle).
The décor and discreet COVID precautions mean the brasserie is a lovely room where art deco clashes with vibrant prints with plump cushioned booths stylishly cosy.
Mains (from £13.95) have not changed much other than the chicken Milanese which has been tweaked with a truffle sauce and daily, seasonal specials which VIVA opted for enjoying a fresh turbot, cooked to perfection.
Whilst the Ivy’s iconic shepherds pie is VIVA’s perfect autumn comfort food with its deeply rich gravy and fluffy mash.
VIVA doesn’t have a sweet tooth (desserts from £3.50) so plumped for cheese to help with the second bottle of red and this selection was right on target, soft, hard and blue.
