Get the right foundation as new must-have makeup launches in the city

Make-up guru loved by celebrities and well, the rest of us, Pat McGrath, has launched in Manchester and at the same time debuts her new foundation line.

VIVA went down to Selfridges in the city centre where Pat McGrath Labs is taking centre stage in the basement beauty room to have a play with all thing pretty and girly (and boyly).

For those that don’t know Pat, dubbed the ‘queen of beauty’, she started on the shop floor as a make-up artist and has worked for anyone who is anyone in fashion for a quarter of a century.

Make-up is her passion and while there’s plenty of sparkle and glitz, the attention to detail and getting the basics right is phenomenal, from lipstick so matt because of their high pigment factor that you want to eat them to the lightest of powders to set your look.

A fabulous gel eyeliner is glide-on perfect and makes that hybrid between liquid and pencil that I’ve been hunting and the collection is full of these gems that make you think, that is what I needed in my make-up bag – all in more colours than the rainbow.

The new sublime perfection foundations that’s been causing a stir in the cosmetic world comes in 36 shades and you can get free a colour-match where they test not only how it looks on your face, but also on your chest so you blend perfectly.

It’s clever stuff, promising you will look selfie-perfect without the need for filters and is also good for your skin. Viva tried it and loved the look which can go from natural to evening by adding layers to get the cover you need.

Here’s the science bit: This nourishing formulation is crafted with Vita-Serum Complex designed to help fight the formation of wrinkles by preserving the hydrolipidic film barrier of the skin and boost hydration by activating the natural production of hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Diamond Core Powder Technology improves skin texture by optically smoothing and blurring the appearance of fine lines and imperfections. An illuminating soft-focus pigment blended into the formula converts and scatters light, emulating the effect of a healthy young complexion.

Oh yeah, we all need a bit of that in our hand or man-bag.

What’s more the prices, although definitely not Poundland, are not eye-watering, and let’s face it, VIVA would sell her mother for the right make-up, with the new foundation under £60 whilst lippy’s are circa £20 plus.

And what’s more, they are packaged beautifully and look gorgeous too, simply scrumptious.

You can try before you buy with the free colour match by booking an appointment, whilst eye or lip appointments start from £30  and the expert and lovely (especially Amy who did me) glam squad are dab hands as you would expect, at creating the perfect pout, wing or smoky eye. Ideal if you’re going out out.
